The mysterious character no-one really knows what he is. Human in appearance, but events seem to dictate he's that only by appearance.

Throughout the series, G-Man appears as some form of third player in the events that are unfolding that no-one but the protagonist is aware of.
[[spoiler:The G-Man has a habit of appearing and disappearing at the oddest locations without seemingly anyone noticing.

In Half-Life: Opposing Force: G-Man appears in one scene, preventing Adrian from escaping Black Mesa, and is literally unnoticed by the other soldiers running off in the background.

A number of Vortigaunts (natives of Xen) prevented G-Man from interfering with Freeman's rescue in Episode One, giving reason to believe that he's known to Vortigaunts at some level.]]
It's likely G-Man's nature will not be revealed in Episode Three, or if it is, then it's a new threat to be tackled in Half-Life 3 if they make it :)

In Episode Two... [[spoiler:... Eli mentions G-Man was the one who gave the sample that started the Xen invasion through the resonance cascade, but he didn't give a name to him, only spoke of his and Gordon's "mutual friend" when Alyx said to prepare for unforeseen consequences.]]
