(Gilbert with the White Hand) humanoid male, belongs to Robinhood (characters list) Robin Hood's archery trainer. Alternately the kings champion in the archery contest who comes to respect Robin Hood after he wins a tie breaking shot. Why it is said he has one white hand is unknown. It is speculated that the writer was referring politely to the character having a withered hand. Whatever the reason, his fighting and archery skills are a close match to Robin Hood's. Various tales have him serving King Richard or Prince John and sometimes he is a veteran of the crusades. He has played the part of the king's man in the archery contest where he originally tied Robin Hood, requiring a second shot by each to determine Robin Hood as the winner.
