A humanoid avian. Last survivor of a race of pacifist warriors. Though his people are intuitive pilots they can't physically fly.

[[spoiler:What's up with Hawk|Hawk's entire race was killed by humans, leaving only himself and his wife Koori. This was the end of a thousands of years of slaughter of his people by humans that started on Earth where Hawk's people had developed before humans. After giving up flight in an unsuccessful effort to fit in, they fled to the stars to avoid hostilities. For this final atrocity against his remaining people, he swore revenge on all humans and destroyed countless ships and outposts near his home planet. Buck was assigned to put a stop to his destruction and abducted Koori in an attempt to force Hawk into communication with him. In his rage he attacks Buck and accidentally mortally wounds Koori. While Hawk's rage is forgotten, Buck convinces him they need to save Koori and unconditionally agrees to do everything he can to do so. Despite Hawk and Buck's efforts, Koori dies. Inspite of the injustices Hawk as been subjected to, Buck then attempts to take him prisoner. After their fight is interrupted, Hawk gives up. Hawk is left a broken man and silently awaits a trial that is sure to end in his execution. But Buck and the memory of Koori convince him to join the humans while they search for lost civilizations of humans and possibly Hawks people as well. Buck is able to convince the court that the injustices against Hawk's people by humans, and the resulting genocide of his execution, is sufficient to commute his sentience into service to humanity. After this, Hawk trusts Buck and is always willing to risk his life for him. He comes to care for Wilma and Dr. Goodfellow as well, but keeps himself distant from any other humans. Despite this, the humans he works with come to trust and respect him. It is not known if any remnant of Hawk's people were ever found.]]
