On August 14, 2008, all the main forks and plugins of FCE Ultra merged into the FCEUX 2.0 project. This includes FCE Ultra, FCEU rerecording, FCEUXD, FCEUXDSP, and FCEU-mm. This means we now have a complete all-in-one NES tool. It has plug-in support, zip and full 7-zip support, increased compatibility (works with Final Fantasy VII), emu pause and frame advance, and Lua-scripting (macros, an AI for a 2nd player, highlight the differentiate by color - the bounding boxes - such as in zapper games, display normally hidden hit points above an enemy, see invisible enemies, display the contents of treasure chests, reveal false walls and other invisible secrets, autojump for any game, fully custom cheat GUI per game - click on the inventory screen to add/remove items - drag on-screen HP or Maximum up and down). It can be used for game development/debugging, ROM hacking, translations, screen shots, movie making, music import/export/recording.playing, speed run tracking, highscore tracking, save game import/export/editing, playing, playing with cheats (NESten via a file conversion, Game Genie, PAR, Gold Finger, and direct RAM alterations), and creating cheat codes. Their's even plugin to copy Kanji to the clipboard right off the NES screen while the game running (or paused); it will even attempt to translate it into English! The RAM filter is like a supersmart cheat finder. But instead of just finding cheats, you can use it to find the location of anything in RAM. For UVL, the screenshots and movie functions (export to AVI and uploaded to youtube) are especially useful. Frame advance is useful for screenshots. The movies can be edited to whatever cut you want in a text editor. Nice! Their's also a GUI based editor built in. The cheat functions can aid in getting a screenshot for game end(ings). The debugging tools are great for delving deeply into the game and finding details to add to the description that haven't been discovered by anyone yet. An the translation tool (called "Text Hooker"), can help people add descriptions of Japanese games even if they only have a minimal knowledge of the language.

Note that the movie and save state formats have changed from all previous version of FCE. But old movies can be loaded and saved in the new format.
