Obviously not a comment by someone who actually tried the real game.

Well, a good portion of the gaming crowd considers Shadow of the Beast as a typical game that mixes fantastic graphics and music with crappy gameplay. I partly agree with that opinion. Technically the game is great, the gameplay is actually below average... but I wouldn't go so far and call it a graphic demo.

I know it's awfully difficult compared to the rest, and I remember the controls being suboptimal, but otherwise I can't remember it having any real deficiencies that weren't present in others at the time.
