I have some friends who pass by the site occasionally and sometimes come across explicit images on the home page for they were the last image added. Is there any way that you can get the 'safe browser' feature to block the image from showing on the home page also?

You know that yellow box oon most of the pages that has the link to have bigger text. is there any way you could add a place to log in there? unsted of going to the user page.

Good idea.
Let me go back home and I'll add it. :-)

# 1 year and 4 months ago
it works! also you might want to add a log out button ...
by Airhead91
# 1 year and 4 months ago
also the 16x16 favicon: on the various page is not working

# 1 year and 4 months ago
you forgot to look at the other things i added (look above posts) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^66

Now the favicon should be always visible.
I didn't noticed this before, thanks.

# 1 year and 4 months ago
two other things, the login thingy for the yellow box doesn't show up on the front page, just every other page, also if you could get it so that if you log in to the yellow box it returns you to the page you were on. also the yellow box needs a logout button.

# 1 year and 4 months ago
I've just done 2 of the 3 requests.
I agree with returning to the right page when logging, but I'm not sure I have the time to do it right now.

# 1 year and 4 months ago (updated 1 year and 4 months ago)
all looks good except the favicon is still not showing.

Edit: It seems that the favicon is only not working in IE7 must be another one of those glitches. Also an IE7 Glitch (or maybe all) you cant right click and save the avitars on the avitar page

when are the personal pages going to be up? any estimates (don't rush)

# 1 year and 4 months ago (updated 1 year and 4 months ago)
Just a little suggestion : maybe you can add "I own it" (the original game of course, not a copy) next to "Preffered", "I've played until the end" and "I'm playing it".

By the way, "I've played until the end" icon does not appear on the search page near the names of the games.

@Airhead91
I wish to complete the image manager (image delete , description editing and character assignment in the proper page) and add the search function and some nice icons to the forum.
Then I'll pass to the personal pages. Should not take much, but I need a good number of contiguous hours, something that I'm missing these days.

@dandyboh
I was thinking about the "I own it" button days ago (as my Wii/GameCube collection is rapidly increasing thanks to e-bay), but can't find a nice icon for it... Something simple, clear and different from the others...
by Airhead91
# 1 year and 4 months ago
hm.. what about a little person almost like the msn messenger icon?
by andread
# 1 year and 4 months ago (updated 1 year and 4 months ago)
Sounds nice, but I'm running out of colors, (blue, green and yellow are empty!)
Oh well, orange is the UVL user-color so that's the choice :-)

(22 minutes later)

Works! Now I have to hurry and mark all my games! :-)
I've still to add the small icons to the games list, as dandyboh wrote...

I was going to note that only "solid" games (cartridges,cd-roms,etc) should be valid ... how to handle virtual games regularly payed and downloaded?
by Airhead91
# 1 year and 4 months ago
what about like a down arrow as in downloaded?
by Airhead91
# 1 year and 4 months ago
you also need to add a button on the user page next to the See your games marked as... for owned
by andread
# 1 year and 4 months ago
All done... almost.
- All the 4 icons appear in the search list
- The links in the user page are updates, plus a new one: any of these.

Note that you can replace the user-ID in the tag field with one of the other editors. This will be much easier when the "personal user page" will be ready. You might start selling your beloved games if you wish.
Just kidding, use e-bay! ;-)
by Airhead91
# 1 year and 4 months ago
how do you find a user id?
by andread
# 1 year and 4 months ago
You are right, every user can know just his ID, right now.
So please wait a few days, the users pages will be up and running.

3 - Emulators list for each game (as in the past years), with Xbox Live Arcade and Wii VC added.

whats wrong with tags?

emu_xboxlivearcade emu_wiivirtualconsole emu_zsnes emu_mess emu_gens emu_wine emu_scumm emu_dosbox emu_stella emu_realityboy emu_dolphin emu_intellivisionlives emu_actionpack

Yes, tags could be used to store almost any kind of data (wow I'm so proud!) but for some specific tasks these should be avoided, specially when the group defined by a tag covers most of the games.
Two examples:
- using the tag (hypothetic) "player-shoots-something" would cover 50% of the total games.
- the "emu_zsnes" tag would take 98% of the SNES games, becoming the most popular SNES tag.
Is this info useful? The presence of these tags would cover the other more useful ones?

I'm just wondering...

Emulators would perhaps be better listed in each platform's own page, any information if a specific game can be run on said emulator is unnecessary duplication of information that likely is or should be provided by the emulator's developers or userbase (if they're still active, e.g. DOSBox has healthy list of games and how well they run under it). Although providing the information in one place might be admirable, it's hardly useful to anyone - especially when the information is more of exclusion than inclusion of games.
by andread
# 1 year and 4 months ago
In the latest UVL release the emulators were just left out as I preferred to work on other parts.
Console-related emulators like the Zsnes were already discarded as they have a 99.9% emulation ratio, so as you say, were just stated in the platform page.
MAME was the only emulator that really needed to be kept, at it continuously adds new games from different arcade systems.
Now thanks to the fact tat consoles can (officially) emulate other systems, things are different and should be reflected in UVL.
especially when the information is more of exclusion than inclusion of games.
I would use tags just to mark the few non-emulated games of some platforms instead

Thanks for the "I own it" game icon. Will take me many hours to bring UVL up-to-date with my owned games list, but I think its fun to see the end result. That way UVL can replace my own "owned games excel sheet" ;-)

So you own (at least) 782 games?
You should send them to me so I can believe you ;-)

# 1 year and 4 months ago
No no... I'm not finished yet. I'm only scratching on the surface so to say. Will be over 3.000 in the end. And thats only those games I have played/tested so far. And there are over 1.500 games from 1995 and newer, which I have not yet played and are still waiting to be put in UVL. I'm collecting old games you know. And it's not even difficult to reach impressive game numbers. Just buy compilations or old 8bit/16bit games by the dozens via ebay.

You own over about 3% of the games on here? nice. And quite incredible.

Back to the subject of UVL to-dos. It seems the image description (and pop-ups) does not handle unicode correctly? (気合!)

What I can't believe is this!
Certainly of our fearless leader must own more games than that!

I knew it wasn't a good idea! :-) Ok, here it is:

In the 90's I only owned two Amiga computers, but I rarely needed to buy games, as I used to play games at my friends house.
They had always the latest hardware with the latest games (most imported from Japan or USA) continuosly selling the old one to buy the new one.
All I had to do was to sit down and play :-)

Then the Amiga1200 with related hardware/software was sold (I've never said to be smart! doh!), leaving me without games at all.

Now, thanks to the Wii, I'm even buying GameCube games on ebay...

It'd be nice if the reply page had a link back to the thread in the "Reply to ${ThreadName}" text. Or the reply page was actually part of the thread page.

Edit: Also, posts following initial post in thread are a bit annoying to read with the smaller font. Make them the same size, please?
by Sanguine
# 1 year and 3 months ago
I'd also like to have the search box that's found on the front page ("Home page") to be avaiable on every page, possibly at the upper right corner of all pages.

Yes, I found it annoying too! Fixed.

I'd also like to have the search box that's found on the front page

Yes, every day I think that would be useful, but as no one asked about it I preferred to work on something else...
Perhaps this weekend.

it looks as if posts on the forum add to the amount of Articals editors add. So it says I am on the top ten for adding articals on the editors page though really its just meposting ideas on the forum.

# 1 year and 3 months ago
Reviews, descriptions, forum posts, replies and most of the "text based stuff" are articles.
To me, posting (good) ideas is as good as posting a game review, as it makes UVL better and better.

A bit related to to-do task #8, the signature. I'm not sure what's the point in remembering the sig when user posts official description for a game. I mean, how likely is it that any user wants to post another official description for that same company's product? It's bothersome to have to clean the sig field each time, since I only use the sig field when posting those official descriptions. This'll probably be fixed as a side effect for fixing #8, so I'm not sure this was worth reporting :)

No need to hurry with this, though, it's a very minor thing to consider since there's more important stuff to do.

Sometime the login you have is different from the Signature you wish to use.
While you have chosen wisely, I didn't :-)
Perhaps having a per-message signature is wrong as it should be per-user. I just have to sort it out.

If I'll work on this just depends on the available time-slice. If I know I have a good amount of free hours (weekends, holidays) , I'll start (and try to end) something massive, while if I've just 30 minutes at disposal, I look at the to-do list if there is some quick fix needed, not considering all those boring things I have in my private UVL to-do list (database management, code debugging / optimizing / cleaning, etc.)
When I'm too tired, I just add some new game/screenshot :-)

Linking to specific character in group from anywhere might be worth something when the groups and characters are fully implemented, whatever you were planning for them. Also, linking to specific tag group instead of searching games with that tag could be useful as well, similar to how game and gameid work.

I'd also like to have the search box that's found on the front page ("Home page") to be avaiable on every page, possibly at the upper right corner of all pages.

Added, I would to modify the landing page too, searching in the whole UVL database: in games, groups, forum, companies, platforms... (the classic search page does not change btw)
Not exactly like the new Google Universal Search, as my incomes are just a bit lower that the Google ones.. ;-)
