Brøderbund appears in many games as Broderbund.

The actual full name of the company is Brøderbund Software.

There are about 100 titles with the o instead of ø, and unspecified number without the Software part.

I'm not for a renaming in this case. Nearly nobody (me included) would be able to write that special "o" in the company search field.

www.lemon64.com/ is a site that uses the "correct" Brøderbund name and when I would make a search for games by publisher and type in the word "Broderbund" (as 99,9% of people would type it in the search form), then I find 0 matches. This is really bad.

Broderbund could be added as common misspelling (if we just could), but it's rather bad choice to not use the correct name just because people can't write it. That's like not using Arabian, Hebrew, Japanese or whatever for game titles just because most can't even read those much less write them.

Edit: you could search for br%derbund :)

At one time, all characters that weren't Aa0-Zz9 or punctuation were automatically replaced with a wildcard character. Or so I was lead to believe. It seems the search stopped doing this? This would solve the searching problem for using the proper name for Brøderbund.

Riverdeep has the rights to the Brøderbund name. Ubisoft hold all other intellectual properties currently is the exclusive publisher of Brøderbund titles. However, Riverdeep themselves use the spelling "Broderbund" instead of Brøderbund. So there is an actual difference in the spelling as to which company it reffer's to. Broderbund is in name only by Riverdeep, Brøderbund is for publishing and other IP by Ubisoft. Brøderbund Sotware in the original sense is still properly spelled with an ø.

As for typing the ø, I think UVL would benefit from an 'international keyboard' option. But call it a 'international videogame keyboard'. This would be a collapsible area filled with characters that are less than optimal to type. Users with browsers that can run scripts could type them by clicking. Other uses could copy and paste from it. I think Wikipedia uses a system like this.

The letter ø (Latin capital/small letter O with stroke) can be produced:
on Linux/X11, AltGr+o, or by pressing and releasing the keys: Multi / o
on DOS or Windows, Alt+0248
on Windows using a US-International keyboard layout, AltGr+L
on MacOS, ⌥ o (Alt o)
on Amiga, Alt+o
using TeX, \o
using HTML, & o s l a s h ;
on a Danish keyboard. It is right of the Æ key, which is right of the L key (the ' key on US keyboards).

Scandinavian systems replace ¢ with the ø, so some of the above techniques will not work on Scandinavian computer systems.

Brøderbund fans and Scandinavians should know all this.

Scandinavians should know all this.

Unfortunately, no, we don't (though I'm not technically Scandinavian) :)

Edit: on fi kbd layout, the character is produced with ctrl-v

There's also the fact that those who _can_ write the proper company name _will_ write it properly, and likely be much more miffed by the fact that they can't find it with that than those who can't because they use the "easy" name for it.
