In this first sequel to the legendary original, Zelda has fallen under a spell of eternal sleep, and Link must unlock the path to the Triforce of Courage to save her. This Zelda game departs from others in the series by including side-scrolling battle scenes (rather than the usual overhead perspective) and a far more linear style of gameplay. It also includes some elements of a 'true' RPG, such as experience points and magic.

A year and a half after the original Famicom Disk System release in Japan, Nintendo brought this game to the west on cartridge. Desptite being a quite good game, Zelda 2 is my least favorite of the classic Zelda games. It surely explored a new gameplay style but the levels were too difficult and I didn't like the random enemy encounter battle system (the similar "The Battle of Olympus" would prove to be much better balanced in my eyes). Graphics and sound are very good for its time. Nintendo understood how to program their 8-bit console.
