AVE was a spin-off of Macronix, a semiconductor manufacturer. Macronix offered ROM chips to Nintendo but got racistly dissed. They created a chip, NINA, that could bypass the NES lockout. It was licensed to AVE & unlicensed developers, thus Macronix sold the ROMs they offered to Big N
