achillesheelfoes / dismemberment — this is the only way you can defeat the necromorphs, by shooting or otherwise ripping off all their limbs. Just shooting at their head or torso won't help much (much like with zombies).
technomagic — (tele)kinesis and stasis devices, the latter of which literally creates a temporal distortion that significantly slows down the passge of time for the targeted object or creature (ergo, slowing their movements down to crawl).

limited supplies — happens only with ammo in case you use single weapon exclusively (you can carry 4). Otherwise you have plenty of ammo around.
faceless protagonist — you can rotate the camera early on in the in-game cinematic portion to point towards the back of the ship when Isaac hasn't donned his helmet yet, showing his face clearly.
