Originally BatMUD was like any other MUD, but at some point they seem to have diverged and created their own client with no visible information on how to connect with regular mud clients anymore. Although they do provide alternate version (HardCore BatMUD) to which you can connect with regular MUD clients, but the drawback is that death is permanent in it (hence "hardcore").
