The Spore Creature Creator was released as standalone product in 2008-06 for people to populate the Sporepedia with (this turned out to be huge success). The creature creator is not a game in itself, but only the part that allows creating the creatures (like the name implies). Released as both free (with only fourth of the body parts available) and commercial version, the latter allowed people to get a discount on the final game when it got released.
