Must company name change lead to second company entry?

I would like to bring up a topic that comes to my mind now after we had the discussion about company label names etc.

I see that a couple of companies that got a name change or change the name of their software division have different company entries.

Famous example:

Another example why this came to my mind now is Thorn EMI and their choice to rename their software group to Creative Sparks.

Does it really need to have two company entries? I do understand it when companies merge (e.g. Squaresoft and Enix to "Square Enix". But with just simple rename?

No it doesn't.
Just add a synonym to the one with more games (to make less link-damage), and rename the other to -----

Two companies merging is a different story.

It is planned to add events to the company entries, so that such renames are correctly tracked.
