Prequel to the whole Ys series and the second game that doesn't revolve around Adol Christin (first was Ys Strategy), set some 700 years before the events of Ancient Ys Vanished (Ys 1&2).
The chosen character affects the story some, but the played areas and such are the same. Encountered NPCs, including bosses, are not always the same and the dialogue tends to be different even if following the same lines. Some items are found in different places too.
