Description

In the second part of the Apprentice, story things take a much darker turn. Lord Ironcrow shows up in person. He's drafting soldiers for his army by any means necessary. He is following the laws of the land, to the letter. For instance, anyone who currently owns their own home or has a job is ineligible for the draft. Lord Ironcrow's solution is simple, burn the homes and businesses. Pib boards in his master's home (Lord Ironcrow is not willing to confront a powerful wizard by buring his home), Pib is of draft age, and Pib does not have a job (he's, merely in-training for one). But were Pib to become an accredited wizard immediately, then he'd have a Job. His master sincerely wants to oblige him, and assigns him three tasks to prove his wizardness worthiness to the academy and himself. Its the standard practice, but Pip is taking it too early and its not being administered by the elder wizards. One would expect the master's tests to of course be self-serving, yet somehow still important to Pip's training. Time is running out before Lord Ironcrow can legally enforce Pib's drafting and the draft effort in the land must still be avoided in the meantime.
