Editor note

Before development, inXile said there would be no Linux version citing lack of Linux experience with their devs, lack of development tools, and lack of a cross platform engine. This position was reversed after they were overwhelmed with job seekers and volunteers with Linux experience, suggestions for dev tools, and suggestions for cross platform game engine. inExile noted "The Influx of Support" in "The Wasteland Chronicles" concerning their development choices. The engine choice fluctuated often after this mainly because the Unity engine was an attractive choice (number 1 on their list) but the status of Linux support for Unity was also in flux. Other engine choices were 100% Linux certain, but not as appealing to the team. Other choices also flocked to the project to offer their services. At one point they were willing to get a source code license from Unity Technologies and handle Linux support in-house. Unity Technologies removed all doubt for inXile when they changed their policies and offered full Linux support to all Unity developers. Soaring funds later brought inXile back to purchasing a source code license to ensure all other features they wanted for WL2 could certainly be achieved. Maximum modability of WL2 was among these features.
