Description
CX-5219. 3 Prototypes exist. The last of which is dated 1983-12-16 and is ready for release. There is an earlier Basketball prototype with a different basketball game. This entry is the about later attempt that resembles the Atari 2600 version.
Options:
The game may seem to lack finishing touches like a proper title screen and polished options page, but this is common for 5200 games released at the time. Game mode is either Singles, Doubles or Demo, 1 player or 2 players simultaneous, Easy or Hard. Singles mode is one-on-one with a human or computer opponent. Doubles allows a single player to control a team for two-on-two play. Again, a human or computer opponent is provided.
Controls:
The ball can be automatically passed by pressing the bottom button in Doubles mode. Shooting is accomplished by holding the top button down to build power and then releasing. There is no feedback to indicate how much power has been accumulated, timing comes only by experience. The type of shot you attempt can be changed with the keypad. 1 for jump shot, 2 for a closer layup, and 3 for a manual pass in Doubles mode. Bump into a dribbler to steal the ball from 'em. There are no out of bounds.
The message bar at the bottom is used for in-game hints and messages. It can also be used for admiration or trash talk.
