Description

CX-5258. Prototype. North America NTSC. Two players can take turns.
Based on the [[gameid:154061 Arcade game] of the same name. This game includes six events from the classic summer Olympics. After completing all six events, they are repeated. But the minimum qualification is harder to beat each time. Eventually your reflexes will be required to meet or exceed the reflexes of the 5200's CPU. Each player for each event must beat a minimum time, score, height, or distance to advance to the next event. Failure to advance means game over. Extra points are awarded based on how much more than the minimum you achieve.

100m Dash
Just run by pushing the joystick left-right-left-right-etc... Don't jump the gun, doing so three times results in disqualification, game over.
Long Jump
Run as in the 100m Dash. Before reaching the fowl line, hold down the button to start changing your jump angle. You must release the button before the fowl line, at which point you will jump according to the current angel selected. Try to time your release so that you are as 45°, and at full speed when you reach the fowl line. The angle starts at 0° and goes up.
Javelin
Do same as with the Long Jump event. But to optimal release angle is 42°
110m Hurdles
Do same as with the 100m Dash. But press the jump button just before each hurdle. Just as in real life, their are no laws that say you can't hit the hurdles; except the laws of physics, that dictate slowing down when colliding with stationary objects.
Hammer Throw
Completing three rapid rotations is a fault (three faults is a failure). The 3rd rapid rotation has the most potential. So release your hammer just before completing the 3rd rotation. Also, release it so that it will fly without crossing the boundary lines, as this also is a fault.
High Jump
Do same as with the Long Jump event. But optimal release angle is 65°, and the angle starts at 90° and goes down. Also you will not have to run, your player will do this automagically for this event only. You may attempt the event repeatedly until the minimum height is cleared. Unlike other events, failure to achieve the minimum will not cause a game over.

Control:
Rapidly move the joystick left and right repeatedly to build power/gain speed.
Press the button to jump/through/release, hold it to change angle.
Wearing out or even breaking the stick off your standard 5200 controllers is a distinct possibility with this game. Be genital.
