This is a Super Famicom remake of the 1988 Famicom classic with improved graphics, sound, and programming. Over a dozen years ago, the kingdom's great hero Ortega embarked on a journey to defeat Baramos, but was said to have perished from a plunge a volcano. Presently, a single youth, on his 16th birthday, goes to the castle of Aliahan. The youth is the hero Ortega's only child. The King, recognizing the youth's determination to succeed the fallen father, commands, 'defeat the Demon Lord Baramos.' Assemble a team of companions, which are pre-made or player created, to save the world from the terrors of the Demon Lord Baramos. It also has never before seen features also like the personality system and small medals.

Many consider this to be the best of the Dragon Quest series. The translation project has passed through many hands. Dejap was working on this, but they're now inactive. There is a partial patch available on their site though:
