Maybe the most popular and common Zapper game for the NES. Shoot ducks before they fly out of reach. In another (more difficult but not so fun) game mode you play a round of Skeet Shooting. Gameplay is simple but effective, you can't do much wrong with this game if you like gun shooting games. There is one thing I dearly miss though, namely being able to shoot that damn annoying dog of yours.

A masterpiece and big seller for the NES/Famicon, Duck Hunt combined simple but effective gameplay with similar hardware - the Nintendo Zapper gun!

Ducks flew out from the grass, and it was our job to put them back into it!

A commercial hit, a legend of technology, and a damn fine game.

Official description

Your trusty hunting dog wades into the marshes to flush out your prey. Your fingers tighten around your Zapper light gun. Suddenly, there's a duck in the air! You've only got three shots to bag this duck, and if you miss, even your dog laughs at you! But become a sharp shooter, and you'll progress to the next round where two ducks fly up at the same time. And then you're on to the ultimate challenge: Clay Shooting, where you'll compete in a wild clay-pigeon shooting contest. Play DUCK HUNT and discover you can have lots of laughs and be challenged at the same time!

Editor note

1 player or 2 players simultaneous competitive. The second player can steer the ducks as a sort of compinsation to not being able to shoot the dog.

The Japanese and Asian region version seem to have no barcodes.

NES-DH-GBR Duck Hunt published 1987-08 in Great Britain and Italy. UPC:0-74299-00906-9
There apparently is no NES-DH-ITA version. However, there is an Italian version instruction booklet that shows the catalog number as "NES-DH-ITA-1".
RET-VD-GBL Vs. Duck Hunt is a reproduction cart by RetroZone. It is the coin-op game in the home NES package. 1 or 2 players. Alternate between pigeons and ducks, adjust difficulty, adjust number of misses (lives) allowed, adjust extra-miss bonuses for score, shoot the dog, etc...
