Personal review

"Nobunaga's Ambition" is the first Koei strategy game appearing on consoles and a port of the second game in the Nobunaga series from Japanese computer systems. Your task is to conquer all "fiefs" in Japan, either in a shorter 17 fiefs game or a longer 50 fiefs game. The game surely set a new standard for NES strategy games regarding complexity. It not only features a strategic level of governing your fief, but also tactical warfare when attacking or defending a fief on a hex-map. My biggest issue with this game is the difficulty level, which is rather high and the fact that the game is rather slow paced. Especially the 50 fief game takes ages to play.

NOBUNAGA'S AMBITION is a turn-based strategy game set in Japan's "Warring States" period that is the 16th century when Japan was divided into numerous feudal states, each one ruled by a daimyo - a warlord. One of those daimyos was the ambitious Nobunaga Oda, a merciless ruler and a great strategist. Now you are Nobunaga and you have to bring your one wish true that is to rule the whole of Japan.
