Besides that, the concepts and gameplay elements they've invented up are quite refreshing, but don't do much in the light of the bugs that prevent you from enjoying it.

After crashing or otherwise exhibiting bugs, it is good idea to exit the game and delete Alone_Data_DFE folder and possibly drm_dyndata_*.dll file in the system temp folder. Removing these seems to at least temporarily fix any bugging, until Eden Games releases a patch for the issues.***EU 2008-06-20

Description: You have volunteered to be shrunk to microscopic size and injected into a human body on a mission to destroy cancerous growths, tumors, and bacteria. White blood cells will aid you in battle. You are given a special 'zap gun' to use in killing the diseases. For your trouble, you will be paid 1000 gold pieces. Also, you get to keep the zap gun.

Comment: This adventure was Rob's first attempt at a "Fantastic Voyage"-type adventure. His main purpose was to write an Eamon adventure that would also help educate the player about human anatomy. Unfortunately actual anatomy is almost non-existent, as most of the 'rooms' of the map use terms like "lower-head", "mid-arm", and so on. The monster-like attitudes of the bad guys was rather unrealistic, also.

If you want to use Eamon as an anatomy teaching aid, take a close look at #185 "The Body Revisited". It has a MUCH better and more detailed anatomical map. I give this adventure a (2) for difficulty.

[Sanguine]***Originally Aquaria was not going to have Linux port, but Alec apparently flipped over and ported it in one night (only the sound engine really needed porting). The most difficult part of the porting is case sensitivity in the filesystem rather than any coding part, Mac and Windows ignore case when accessing files while Linux doesn't, making files that open quite well on Win/Mac result in file not found in Linux. They're working to convert all the files and their names in scripts/code to match, so the issues will probably go away after a bit.

[s]The Linux release may be a bit iffy still.[/s]

(The thread shown in the source link has most of the stuff related to Linux port. Just scan for posts by Alec.)

Update: Released as part of the 2010 Humble Indie Bundle after which Aquaria was also open-sourced.

Lonely, restless Naija has spent her entire life wrestling with questions about her identity. We join her as she takes her first steps away from the comfort of home and into new, potentially dangerous waters. Through exploration and magical combat, Naija will unearth the history of Aquaria and connect with beings lost in the depths of time. On the search to discover the fate of her people, her destiny and that of Aquaria's will be forever altered.

A massive, underwater fantasy world to explore

Aquaria is an action-oriented, non-linear 2D side-scrolling game. Using an intuitive and fluid mouse control system, Naija can deftly swim through and explore a massive, handcrafted world that is teeming with undersea life. Along the way, she will encounter literally hundreds of different types of plants and animals and explore many ingame miles of hidden caves, lost ruins, and other strange places.

As kids, we grew up playing the brilliant 2D action and roleplaying games of the time. With Aquaria, we've aimed to capture the excitement of those games in a new way, using updated technology, controls, and visuals. This is a game with a very personal touch, from the characters and story to the creature interaction and expansive environments.

Seamless, non-linear gameplay

In order to make the experience as engaging as possible, we created an interface that lets the player easily control Naija with just a two-button mouse. The HUD is minimal (restricted to only a minimap in the lower-right corner of the screen). In place of textual dialogue that most games rely on we used voice acting to drive the story without interrupting the gameplay.

Through a realtime interface, Naija can sing songs and cast spells without going to a menu screen. With practice, these spells can be cast easily to interact with the environment, solve puzzles, or combine them for strategic effect during combat. Certain spells will allow you to change form, creating new ways of playing the game depending on the form chosen.

Breath of Fire II  Capcom1994Incorporating the same adventuring viewpoint and battle interface that made the original Breath of Fire so popular, Breath of Fire II became an instant favorite among RPG fans when it was released for the Super NES back in 1995. Breath of Fire II features four new fighting formations, which allows for greater control and strategy in battle. Adding even more depth to the series, players can combine their party members with Shamans to create enhanced characters.***Featuring a wide range of characters and personalities and a vast, endless world to explore, Breath of Fire II is the sequel to the original smash-hit role-playing game. In a world set 500 years after the previous installment, in a frontier village known as Gate, the father and sister of a young boy known as Ryu are suddenly abducted. Strangely, all the villagers appear to have completely forgotten everything about the incident, and Ryu has instantly become an orphan. At a church, Ryu meets Bow, another orphan in a similar predicament, and they slip away from town together to begin their adventure. Take advantage of the multiple game-play viewpoints found in the game (such as the quarter-view perspective during battles that made the original game so popular) to use exciting abilities like shaman fusing and dragon transformations and help these two heroes complete their mission.***This is a traditional RPG, and doesn't really do anything drastically different from other games in the genre with the battles. Enemy encounters occur at random while you are walking on the overworld, or when you're going through an area such as a tower or a cave. By looking at your menu, you are able to get a rough idea about how many random battles there are likely to be in the particular area you are in. Though they occur more at some areas than others, there will be many enemies to fight. This can become frustrating, particularly when you are in a confusing area or maze.***Another classic RPG that was butchered by Nintendo during translation. An unofficial translation with improved graphics and cosmetic modifications is being worked on here (they also have a completed German translation):

Instead, players simply controls a miniaturized surgeon attempting to cure a patient from inside his body. The surgeon's submarine breaks apart soon after injection and the surgeon's tools are limited without it (but the patient can still be kept alive). Once the pieces of the submarine are located and reassembled, actual surgery on the patient can be performed with the sub's scalpel tool. The sub's energy comes from red blood cells which must be harvested to keep the sub operational. Enemies include bacteria, cholesterol blockages, viruses, and blood clots. Players are thrust into a desolate city scorched by hellfire. Here, the few survivors must meld science and sorcery in order to gain a foothold against the minions of darkness and save the bloodline of humanity.

FEATURES

* A New Perspective on RPGs
Combining the depth and customizability of role-playing games with the immersion of those played from the first-person, Hellgate is fast-paced but doesn't require lightning reflexes to achieve a high level of success.
* Unique and Appealing World
Explore an ominous post-apocalypse London alone or with friends. From ancient ruins long buried beneath once thriving streets to shattered cathedrals, fact and myth are blurred into an unceasing nightmare as the last remnants of humanity fight for their very souls.
* Character Classes
Fight against the demons of the underworld as one of several unique character classes. like the Templar, each class has a unique visual and game-play style based on its particular history and place in the world. Randomly generated items that can be modified in numerous ways ensure that heroes are distinct and individualized.
* Hell on Earth
Battle against a wide variety of demonic enemies, each with their own unique attributes, abilities, and vulnerabilities.
* Infinite Re-playability
With dynamically generated levels, massive quantities of randomly created items, chance events and story-driven quests, no two gaming experiences are ever the same. Differing levels of rarity and modification potential for items and skills also mean that every game played is a unique event.
* Single-Player and Online Multiplayer Support
While Hellgate : London stands on its own as a singleplayer game, it also provides a compelling multiplayer experience via a dedicated online gaming destination. By creating unique and individualized gameplay "instances" within a vast online community, Hellgate provides gamers with all the best parts of traditional massive multiplayer games, but without any of the common downsides.

Note: the game effectively pauses when drawing, and the only limit you have then is how large your ink pot (magic pool) is. Ink is restored quite fast when not drawing, so there's very little reason to upgrade it (unless some later puzzles require more). Of course, being brush heavy in the fighting will make you want to upgrade it. This is also works great for defending yourself when you otherwise feel like you can't (grow trees between the attackers and you, slash at the enemies or the stuff they throw at you, etc.)

Feeding animals gives 1-5 points of praise/adoration (xp) per animal, though single feeding affects the whole herd, flock, or whatever.***Other languages are only present on the game box and manual (in-game voices/text still in English), at least in European releases.

The Japanese title 大神 actually reads "great deity" rather than "wolf", but the pronunciation (and transliteration) is the same as with 狼 which stands for "wolf". So, in effect, it's a pun for "great wolf deity".***In Okami, the player takes the role of the mythical sun goddess Amaterasu, in the form of a wolf. Her task is to restore color (or 'life') to the world by destroying the monsters who have stolen it. Since Amaterasu is a deity, there are naturally people who worship her and people who don't. The more people who worship her (as a result of her restoring color and doing other good deeds for them), the more powerful she becomes.***In Ōkami, the legendary monster Orochi has come back to life and turned the world into a wasteland. To restore the earth's natural order and beauty, players assume the role of wolf-embodied sun god Amaterasu and participate in numerous action packed battles against the ominous beings they encounter. However, conquering these impending enemies is no small feat. Amaterasu will travel through different regions of the world to regain her 'Celestial Brush' powers, all the while revitalizing everything in her path. Using an innovative control scheme, gamers can slash away at enemies, use various brush strokes to solve puzzles, create pathways, chop down trees or turn night into day. The real-time fighting system not only involves assorted brush techniques, but also myriad of specials attacks typically not associated with the physical prowess of a normal wolf.

Featuring a visually stunning art style, Ōkami comes alive through beautiful scenic 3D levels that have the appearance and texture of paper scrolls brushed with watercolor-like calligraphy art. Throughout the vibrant and distinctive surroundings, players must also interact with a dynamic cast of characters, building their faith to uncover clues and hints. The blend of stylized graphics and unique gameplay will result in a rich and dynamic experience never seen before.***great art style

Space Quest 6: Roger Wilco in The Spinal Frontier  Sierra On-Line1995This game was the last to be released in the Space Quest series. It ran on the last version of the SCI engine, SCI32. This allowed it to use Super VGA graphics with 256 colors at 640×480 resolution. Unlike other SCI games, it didn't have the interface in a pull down bar at the top of the screen, but instead used a "verb bar" window along the bottom of the screen, similar to LucasArts' SCUMM engine. The graphics style was also more cartoonish than in previous games. Gary Owens served as narrator once again. Having defeated the diabolical pukoid mutants in Space Quest V, Captain Roger Wilco triumphantly returns to StarCon headquarters - only to be court-martialed due to breaking StarCon regulations while saving the galaxy. He's busted down to Janitor Second Class, and assigned to the SCS DeepShip 86 (a parody of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine), commanded by Commander Kielbasa, a Cowardly Lion look-alike whose name is taken from the polish sausage as well as being a play on the names of both the feline Kilrathi from the computer game series Wing Commander and of the character Mufasa from the animated motion picture The Lion King. His voice is a parody of Captain Jean-Luc Picard from Star Trek: The Next Generation. The game's subtitle comes from the final portion, in which Roger has to undergo miniaturization and enter the body of a shipmate and romantic interest. Josh Mandel designed the majority of Space Quest 6 (with Scott Murphy on-board in a "creative consultant" capacity) but had to leave the project shortly before completion due to internal strife with Sierra. As an additional result of this change in designers, some puzzles - primarily in the latter stages of the game - were shoddily implemented due to lack of communication. I have an irrational fear of heights, this fear is occasionally triggered by images, mostly movies in theaters (there's a reason its called an irrational fear). A couple of Super NES games manages to flip my stomach momently, but I quickly became desensitized in just a few seconds. Certain levels of Mario 64, took weeks before a felt comfortable having Mario approach edges without having him crawling like an infant. But, I got over heights in Mario 64. OoT wasn't near as bad as Mario 64 for me. Probably has something to do with the fact that OoT didn't include sneaky tricks designed to make the player fall (ie:dead end with the green mushroom in Tall, Tall Mountain). In OoT, I quickly grew comfortable leaping on to the webs to break them, chicken flying and insane shortcut leaps into the Gerudo Valley and inside the Water Temple, etc. So I was not expecting to have a problem when I started playing OoT again GameCube. The most noticeable effect of seeing OoT and MM in progressive scan mode is the enhanced perception of depth of the world of Hyrule. The camera angles and pans during play, but especially in cut scenes, are much more impressive than they look on the N64. As you may have guessed, I'm having a bit of difficulty with OoT and my fear of heights. This is a unique experience for me, I've never had a game trigger my phobia a second time after becoming desensitized. Fortunately, I can appreciate the effect of depth in many place in the game that are not related to Link's height from the ground. For instance, The Camera angles when Link is listening to the Great Deku Tree. It stretches to the sky and talks of the creation of the Hyrule universe, the dangerous times approaching, and how everyone's future depends on YOU. Tree is telling this little child he is Hyrule's savior. Thousand foot tall, progressive scan, Mr. G. D. Tree can't do anything but he's telling a half pint child to fix everything while he's sitting in the dirt. The child's response: he gets up, brushes the dust from his tunic and heads out to do it. Wow, its even better in progressive scan.

The WW demo lets you play the 1st sequences of the Forsaken Fortress, Windfall Island and Dragon's Roost. All games can be shown in 640x480p by holding the B button when turning on the GameCube. LoZ and AoL were 320x240i and even thought they are still drawn with 320x240 pixles, 640x480p does make a difference in image clarity. The 3D elements of OoT and MM, which were originally 320x240p and are much more noticeable improved. However, the 2D interface of these games is like LoZ and AoL, is only a slight improvement.

The emulation is not perfect, this most notable in Majora's Mask that can experience lag, graphic glitches and even freeze. Disabling the rumble feature generally improves the emulation. And, most of the same minor shading glitches that are present when running OoT and MM under PC emulators are also present in these GameCube emulations; how curious.

All packages are marked "NOT FOR RESALE" and it was never intended for retail sales. Instead it was made available to customers who pre-purchased GameCube units, purchased various limited edition GameCube bundles, registering a GameCube and two games at Nintendo.com, subscribed or renewed a subscription to Nintendo Power or Club Nintendo, the Stars Catalogue program, or proof of purchases from certain GameCube games. These promotions were different for the various regions and change periodically. Nintendo authorized an official strategy guide and continues to sell copies of the manual. despite the restrictions, some stores blatantly sold packages including only the game that they managed to obtain through manipulating the various promotions. A few authorized outlets continue to offer the unauthorized sale of used copies. This grey market and used game distributing is generally protected by Law in Europe and the USA, but is a risk for the distributor since Nintendo can stop doing business with them. Obviously, Nintendo did not intentionally offer this game to unauthorized (grey market) distributors and retailers directly, the intended distributors and outlets that manipulated promotions are engaged in grey marketing. Despite the relatively large number of this 'limited edition', it is genuinely rarer than most other GameCube games.

Since the original games were produced at various times when Nintendo had various company structures, their are different developers listed. Also, the Actual emulation (digital) repackaging was handled by Nintendo Entertainment Analysis and Development (EAD Team 4) and the US based Nintendo Software Technology Corporation.

Tags
Applies to two games in this collection. First discussed will be the Ocarina of Time. When the Hero of Time removed the Master Sword from it's pedestal in the Temple of Time, he was held in place for 7 years while Gannon used the opened door to get access to the Triforce. But he was only able to gain access to the Triforce of Power, the other two pieces hid themselves from him. Freed seven years later, the Hero of Time found the world devastated by Gannon's war and Hyrule Castle replaced by Gannon's fortress. Due to possessing the Triforce of Power, Gannon became extremely difficult to kill. It is speculated that Gannon wished for immortality and his wish was mostly granted, but not quite complete, since he didn't have the whole Triforce. Meanwhile, The Hero of Time was able to use the Master Sword to return to the exact moment he'd first removed it. He could then affect the future in small ways. In the past, he could use the Master Sword again to travel to the future time after the war. But, he was unable to stop the war or go to a point in history before he'd opened the Door of Time and stop himself. In the future, the Hero of Time managed to disable Gannon and in that moment the seven sages sealed him in the Sacred Realm with his Triforce of Power. Now, Princess Zelda did have the power to send The Hero of Time back to a previous point using her magical Ocarina. The Hero and Zelda both had pieces of the Triforce that may have enable this feat, no other incidents of such a precisely controlled trip through time have happened with any other people in the canonical Zelda universe. This is where the timeline splits, Princess Zelda went on to rebuild Hyrule and presumably marry and have children in a world without the Hero of Time. But in the other time line, the child Hero came with knowledge of a possible future and one very important piece of advice for the young Princess Zelda. DON'T OPEN THE DOOR OF TIME. They fought with Gannon in what became known as the Imprisoning War because this war ended in baiting Gannon with the complete Triforce that was never taken out of the Sacred Realm. Gannon became trapped in the Sacred Realm with his Triforce.

AlternateTimeLine also applies to Majora's Mask. First it must be established that this game takes place in the alternate time line where the young Hero of Time warned young Zelda about a possible horrible future if the Door of Time was opened. But this isn't the reason for an Alternate Time Line. More to the point, The Hero was given the Ocarina of Time and a song by Princess Zelda that enabled him to repeatedly return to a key point in the past with important items and create a additional time lines. He did this repeatedly until he was able to create a time line in which he retrieved Major's Mask from the Skull Kid and defeated Majora. The 'failed' time lines were all presumably terminated by the natural yet extreme forces resulting from the collision of two planetary bodies near the physical location of the key point in time (this occurred in ALL other timelines when Majora was undefeated). Yet, the Hero seems to have been able to retrieve items from these different time lines that continued to exist.
Link can ride Epona in OoT and MM, shoot a bow an arrow in LoZ, OoT, and MM, go fishing in OoT, travel back a forth between two time periods that are 7 years apart in OoT, Travel back to a key place and point in time in MM and teleport around the land of Hyrule in OoT and Termina in MM by playing a song or finding a shortcut portal. Of note, Link does not teleport in LoZ, he is carried from place to place by a whirlwind. OoT is both a prequel and a remake. Despite taking place in a previous time than the previously released games (some of which are included in this package), it follows the formula developed by those previous games. Even to the point that 4 major roles reoccur, Gannon the demonic magician-thief lusting for power, Link the Hero, Zelda the Princess, The wise of sage who advises Link, and Impa the Loyal servant of Royalty. Stealth is required for the Hero to gain access to the outer then inner sections of Hyrule castle in OoT. The Hero is required to sneak past multiple guards without being seen, heard or touched by them. Additionally, some enemies will fail to notice the Hero under certain conditions; although these instances are merely helpful and not at all required. Stealth in MM is required and the Stone Mask is specifically for causing the Hero to go unnoticed by most characters and enemies in the game.
Shigero Miyamoto is "involved in Shinto" (apparently this is the politically correct term) and most of the Legend of Zelda games he designed either encourages or requires the main characters to participate Shinto like practices in order to beat the game. Shigero Miyamoto was a key author of LoZ, AoL and OoT. Additionally he had creative influence on the design on MM. The main Shinto practices presented are collection and use of spiritual relics and rituals at 'shrines'. Miyamoto has confirmed his Shinto faith publicly including during game related interviews. When asked if the Zelda games promoted shinto, he did not deny it.
[Someone more familiar with Shinto needs to expand or/and revise the above paragraph.]
OoT and MM feature, snowscapes, item durability (for a few specific items), day and night. All games feature melee combat, trap rooms, mountains, forest, bridges, monsters, and blobs. All but LoZ feature towns and magic. Some games feature ruins, outlaws, and plains. OoT features the inside of a megafish as a location. MM features the tragic introduction of the Scooby Tingle character, alien abduction, and off-screen action. Foes with Achilles' Heel type weaknesses are a mainstay of the series, especially bosses and Gannon. Naming your kid "Link" effectively chooses them to save the world while still a child in the Zelda universe. But Links age in LoZ, sequences of OoT, and AoL is debateably teen or adult. All but MM feature a mix of 2D and 3D type graphics in their attempts to represent a 3D environment. MM features tattoos and they are present in OoT. Nighttime enemy encounters in OoT a merely relentless, not random. But overworld enemy encounters in LoZ are both random and relentless.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time  Nintendo1998"seruta no ten'setsu taimu no okarina" is the romanised Old Hylian title.
[Zerothis]***Released to an eager audience in 1998, The Legend of Zelda : Ocarina of Time became an instant smash and quickly established itself as one of the greatest games ever made.

As legendary hero Link, you must journey across Hyrule, and even through time itself, to thwart the plans of Ganondorf. You'll wield weapons and gadgets, battle enormous bosses and solve brain-busting puzzles, which are among the best ever seen in the Zelda series.

Ocarina of Time brilliantly adapted the 2D, top-down style of classic Zelda adventures into 3D, becoming a textbook example of game design that is still followed today.

But the appeal of ‘Ocarina' lies not only in its cinematic visuals or groundbreaking combat system; it also impresses with its epic storyline, memorable characters, superbly designed dungeons and rich variety of gameplay. Quite simply, it's a masterpiece!***The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time reveals the genesis of the fantasy land of Hyrule, the origin of the Triforce and the tale of the first exploits of Princess Zelda and the heroic adventurer Link. Vibrant, real-time 3-D graphics transport players into the fantasy world of Hyrule. The quest takes them through dense forests and across wind-whipped deserts. Players swim raging rivers, climb treacherous mountains, dash on horseback across rolling hills and delve into dungeons full of creatures that fight to the finish to put an end to their adventures. With immersive graphics, a sweeping story line, swashbuckling adventure, mind-bending puzzles and a touch of humor, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is one of Nintendo's most epic challenges ever.***As the first fully three-dimensional title in the Zelda series, players must take on the role of a young boy with a grand destiny growing up in the Kokiri village. The young hero, Link, soon finds out that something is afoot when he is dispatched on an epic adventure by the Great Deku Tree. On his travels Link discovers he is destined to become the Hero of Time and save Hyrule from the evil Ganondorf. His travels take him across a vast and colourful continent as he battles through challenging dungeons - ranging from the eerie Forest Temple to the fiery caves of Dodongo Cavern. With hours of exciting gameplay this title is sure to keep even the most dedicated player busy for weeks.

Unique to the Zelda series, Ocarina of Time sees players taking on both the role of child Link and his young adult form. When he begins his journey, Link is an eight year old boy in an as yet untainted Hyrule. However, when he uncovers the fabled Temple of Time and the legendary Master Sword Link is too young to take on the role of Hero of Time so is transformed into a young adult. During this time Hyrule radically changes into a darker and more dangerous place.
Deku shrubs are pretty timid and a variety of attacks will make them surrender. But the quickest ammo free solution is one ground pounding swing with the Megaton Hammer
***The fifth in the Zelda series, this game takes place before all the others. The graphics are quite impressive, the story, although known to all Zelda gamers, is put in quire well, and the gameplay matches the value of any Zelda to date. A very good 3D translation for a well done game. Zelda fans will not be dissappointed with all the features this game has to offer.

Although it's not quite 'Game of the Century', Zelda: Ocarina of Time is a thrilling adventure from start to finish. It has huge dungeons, hundreds of puzzles, fun boss fights, and many secrets to uncover, all enveloped in a gorgeous 3D environment. It may be cliche to say this, but Zelda 64 is easily my favorite N64 game.
