Despite the gratuitous fanservice from including LV-426, Hadley's Hope, Sulaco, the Derelict and its dead Jockey pilot, Hicks, and various other things from the movies, this game utterly fails to deliver on the atmosphere of the films. Alien acidic blood is only a minor annoyance, player can trivially fight the aliens in melee, the aliens themselves seem incredibly lazy, the way player can carry ~10 different weapons with separate ammo for each, extremely linear locations, and whatever else make this feel unsatisfying when you come to it expecting a proper Aliens game. The license seems almost wasted on it considering how much they deviate from what fans of the franchise would expect. If they had made this a game with no ties to Aliens franchise it would've probably been half-decent, but as it is, it fails to be what it is supposed to be. The graphics are the main point where this actually is quite good at, though for PC game they're kinda low fidelity, but nothing you wouldn't expect from a game that's published on the usual platform trio (X360/PS3/PC).

To summarize: fans of the Alien franchise, keep away. People who don't care for the franchise on the other hand, this can work as a mediocre tube shooter.

In additional there is an leveling/experience system unified for both single-player and multiplayer where the earned points can be used to unlock new attachments and aesthetic enhancements for weapons and the main character. Most of the missions are not played alone. There is a squad of AI-controlled team mates who assist. They act independently and their behaviour cannot be influenced by the player. Many missions take place inside the space ship, but also often outside. There are a few stealth segments where all weapons are removed and no sound can be made while walking through a large amount of aliens.

Opponents include famous xenomorph aliens from the first three films, such as the chestburster, drone, facehugger, queen, warrior and runner. There are also new types, such as a boiler that can explode and a crusher. Certain levels include encounters with human soldiers from the Weyland-Yutani corporation with a different interest in the colony. There are also a number of boss fights.

Multiplayer is available as a cooperative campaign for two (split-screen) or four (online) players. Competitive multiplayer modes include Escape, Extermination, Survivor and Team Deathmatch. Escape and Survivor draw inspiration for the Left 4 Dead series. For Desmond, this is the life of Altaïr Ibn La-Ahad (الطائر), an assassin who lived during the Third Crusade in 1191. Although the story skips the kidnapping and starts with Desmond jagged into the Animus and experiencing some synchronization issues with it.

The game is difficult to categorize and abundantly lampshaded by the fact that most of the game takes place inside the Animus which has been created to produce a video game like experience, so effectively you're playing a video game inside a video game. And the experience produced by the Animus is an abstraction of sorts with various alterations that make it easier for the user to operate it, such as translating all languages to plain English and so forth. So any inconsistencies with reality are due to that, and since memories aren't exactly logical 1 to 1 copies of reality, much illogical instances can occur, some of which can be interpreted to mean some [url=http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/JustBugsMe/Ptitlel59ywfenym8d?from=JustBugsMe.AssassinsCreed]very strange things[/url].

The King's mines are set in a large magical sphere and are worked by prisoners captured from across the kingdom. And it is into this sphere that you are thrown, charged with the task of delivering a letter – a letter that might just mark the turning point in the war against the Orcs. The Gothic world is constantly changing and evolving: events will occur that can alter the relationships between several groups of characters. NPCs are fully rounded with their own daily habits and relationships: they get up, work, go to bed, chat with each other and so on. More significantly, monsters cooperate with each other and are able to figure things out; they have individual perception. Some can be lured with food or noise, some will run away from bright light. Some can only hear or detect movement. Each character has the ability, with the correct training, to improve particular skills as the game progresses: training with the master of the sword, for example, will result in a character displaying noticeably more skilled swordsmanship. It is so much more satisfying to witness the effect of the skills you have learnt when they are visible in your character as oppose to a meaningless number rating, improving say, from 8 to 10. These 'optical' improvements are for the whole range of skills included in Gothic. The two different classes of magic (which are absolutely independent from each other) work along the same lines.***
