Rygar  Tecmo1986platformer Fantasy Description of Game Play
"4.5 billion years have passed since earth's creation. Many dominators have ruled in all their glory. But time, their greatest enemy, ultimately defeated their reign. And now, a new dominator's reign begins ...
RYGAR' is a powerful warrior armed with a mighty weapon. 'RYGAR' can project his weapon in the direction he faces as well as swing it arching above his head. He must defeat all enemies, as well as destroy rock-head-stones" that appear from below ground. These rock "head-stones," when destroyed will leave bottles containing different potions, or stars or "T"'s that award more time Picking up the bottles and stars secretly brings out shields. These shields when picked up award new powers to 'RYGAR'. These powers include: extension of weapon reach; powerful overhead attack, ability to defeat multi-enemies within reach of weapon, indestructible for a certain time and ability to defeat enemy by trampling them. 'RYGAR' moves left or right, leaps high into the air and ducks down to a kneeling position. 'RYGAR' can "bounce" on his enemies to temporarily knock them out!! 'RYGAR' can leap up onto tree branches as well as onto rock formations. 'RYGAR' can also "climb" ropes to progress in the game play.

New Feature!!
TECMO has included an interesting, new feature that many game players have told us they want When a player "loses" a game life, the new "spare" 'RYGAR' warrior appears at exactly the point where the old one died. The player is not taken back to the beginning of each new round of play, causing an increasing "frustration factor" that will soon cause a player to walk away. 'RYGAR' has twenty-seven (27) rounds of play, unlike 6-10 rounds like many other games, so this feature will certainly be appreciated by your game customers.***

[27]***The PAL versions user 10-bits of memory each to store the attack and defense points where as the NTSC versions uses 12-bits. This means the maximum of 4000 points is obtainable for NTSC version but the PAL versions cap the player at 1023 points. The latter part of the game and especially the final boss are extremely challenging to beat with these caps.***A good early NES game. Not a direct port of the arcade Rygar game, but more something of a re-imagination. Tecmo put a few Action-Adventure elements into the game. Half of it is played in side-view perspective, the other half in a top-down view. The game is playable and the graphics and music have enough variety.***When all the other platforms attempted to convert arcade Rygar, the NES took a different approach. This one isn't like the arcade at all so it deserves a section of its own. It keeps the same Rygar character, the weapon and a few of the monsters but the rest has been redone with a kind of RPG element. At first I didn't like it but then I realized that it was better this than another mess.
The gameplay is more like [game=Black Tiger]Black Tiger[/game] in that it's a platformer but the levels are up/down scrolling too as well as left/right and you can also find hermits who are willing to help you out (similar to the shopkeepers). The various areas of the land are linked up by a stage with a top down view (pictured above right). The game is energy based and it also hides various special objects which help you such as a crossbow and grappling hook. And no extra lives, when you die, your dead.

Rygar: The Legendary Adventure  Tecmo2002action/reflex adventure Fantasy Historical A surprisingly dull game despite the hype it received. Beyond that, I have no opinion of it.***Taking place on an Island in the Mediterranean Sea called Argus, Rygar: The Legendary Adventure, tells the tale of a noble warrior determined to save the Princess Harmonia and bring the Island of Argus back to a state of peace.
For his contribution and bravery during The Great Sea Battle, which ultimately brought the Island of Argus to victory, Princess Harmonia was honoring Rygar in a magnificent ceremony. During the celebration, ravenous monsters called "Titans" emerged from the land, destroying not only Rygar's homeland, but abducting his beloved Princess Harmonia.

In the midst of this chaos deep cracks were formed in the island's surface, creating a dark and mysterious underworld. Before realizing what was happening, Rygar was swallowed by this underworld.

While there, a Goddess approached and informed him that in order to destroy the Titans and save the Princess, he must depend on his almighty Diskarmor, which becomes the essential tool in his quest for victory. Armed with the Diskarmor, Rygar sets out on what will become a Legendary Adventure...
