Final Fantasy II  Square1988Very good RPG. Played this back when I was but a child. ^^ Up to now I still love it.***1player only
SQF-FY ファイナルファンタジーII/Final Fantasy II published 1988-12-17 by Square in Japan.
Final Fantasy II: Dark Shadow Over Palakia was going to be the title of the USA publishing.
MSRP: 6,500円

This is the second game in Square's popular Final Fantasy series. It was released only in Japan (the Japanese Final Fantasy IV was released as Final Fantasy II in the U.S.). The game emphasizes the storyline more than the first game: four young refugees from a conquered kingdom join a rebel movement in hopes of striking back at their oppressors. Players must engage in conversion collecting key words to ask key people about in order to advance the plot. Character's have identities and personalities unlike in FF1. This is emphasized by character portraits of all the player characters, the fact that there are many player characters that come and go as their role in the plot dictates, and the frequent use of player characters' names by NPC's. Familial relationships between characters are also frequently noted. The graphics aren't terribly advanced beyond FF1's, but the experience system was completely revamped. Instead of gaining EXP and levels, the heroes gain points in the abilities that they use. Attacking a lot increases strength. Getting hit a lot increases defense. Casting the Fire spell a lot increases the spell's power. Using an axe increase axe fighting ability. An interesting concept (usually reserved for computer RPGs), but one that makes for a difficult game (as long as the endemic exploits of this game's system are not utilized). A translation to English patch for the ROM is available.

This is the Final Fantasy volume that introduced Chocobos and Cid

A note about these codes. The algorithm of the experience system is designed to reach natural equilibrium through minor adjustments, not just for every stat but also their relations to each other. It is not a fault tolerate system and tampering may lead to large numbers in bad places (inn costs 65535 gil), large number rollovers (your 65535 HP just became 1 HP), and values froze at zero permanently (0 MP, you are no longer a magic user)

[Zerothis]***Sequel of the successful Final Fantasy. It has a really good storyline and a new system where you have to improve abilities/skills by using them, instead of gaining XP and levels in the traditional way. Still a good RPG, but I really didn't like the way the skill system seduced you to find ways to make leveling up easier by e.g. hitting your own party members. It somehow ruined the whole pace of the game.

SpellJammer: Pirates of Realmspace SSI;Softgold (Cybertech Systems;SSI)1992Published 1992-01-01 in North America
Published in Germany
Comes on five 3½ inch disks.

The player is a captain and commands a crew. They deliver people and supplies from planet to planet, guard shipping lanes, and fight pirates via mission based gameplay. In addition to this open ended gameplay, the player can earn reputation points to gain access to plot advancing scenes and missions. A bit different for the Gold Box games, is a 3D view used during real-time combat and space flight. Ships are armed with catapults and ballistas. Crews can also board each other's ships for turn based combat that's familiar to Gold Box. During turn based combat, The player has full control of the officers but multitudes of crew are commanded actually operated by the game's AI under the captain's orders. Explorations are limited to the local crystal sphere.

Test of navigator skills: Ships have warning system to prevent the navigator from plotting a course into a crystal sphere that complete surrounds the local system. A good navigator can do it anyway, resulting in destruction of the ship and death of everyone on board.
Ultimate test of navigator skills: The warning is extra vigilant about collisions with a sun. The best navigators can successfully plot and carry out this fiery death.

The physics of spelljamming allow for some unique tactics. A spelljammer equipped object carries a surrounding air bubble. If a ship's bubble is dangerously stale or thin, it can pass close to another ship and their air bubbles will mingle. Note that stale air tends to sink to the bottom of the bubble, a carefully planned pass can raise the air quality of one ship while simultaneously poisoning the air of the other one.

Al Escudero had been assigned the project of doing a space battler for SSI. Escudero designed the '3D extensions' for the Gold Box Engine which was basically just draw a different still map for each frame, populating it with sprites, and individually scaling everything based on viewing angle and distance. After a couple of months, upper management at SSI decided to kill the project. But, another 2 months would go by before the message worked its way from upper management through all the in between management levels and finally got to Escudero. Not wanting to waste the time and effort, management decided they could make use of one of the obscure D&D licenses in their inventory, SpellJammer. Most graphics in the game are digitized photos since everything had to be viewable from many different angles (too much to hand draw or code). A color digitizing system was too expensive so the photos were taken in black & white with RGB filters then the three images were combined in the graphics editor (this produced better images than most color systems anyway) The video, photo's and hand drawing art were digitized on an Amiga, then edited on a PC, (then transfered back to an Amiga for the Amiga version.) Models were custom built for one ship. The custom model approach was abandoned when it was determined that the eventual cost would be more than the game's expected profit. People from the Society for Creative Anachronism posed in their own costumes. The other human models were friends of Escudero. Many objects were gathered from quick and easy sources, such as asteroids from Escudero's back yard. All the graphic primitives which were written in x86 assembler, everything else was done in C. The videos are a series of compressed pictures that are decompressed with an assembly routine. Mark McGough and Peter Grisdale were computer programmers and had all the equipment to do the music. They worked in exchange for being listed in the credits and a copy of the finished game. Escudero programmed most of the game in his kitchen. But he rented a small office to impress SSI when they came to visit. (He would eventually rent the whole floor of that building and run a successful MUD that was eventually swallowed by the gaping maw of the abyss known as Electronic Arts). The final product shipped with a bug (stemming from a standard C library, not Cybertech's code) that apparently only triggered on SSI's PC computers (not other PCs or Amigas). Most later units don't have the bug.

SpellJammer: Pirates of Realmspace SSI1993The player is a captain and commands a crew. Crews can also board each other's ships for turn based that's familiar to Gold Box. Durring turn based combat, The player has full control of the officers but multitudes of crew are commanded actually operated by the game's AI under the captain's orders. Explorations are limited to the local crystal sphere.

Test of navigator skills. Ships have warning system to prevent the navigator from plotting a course into a crystal sphere that complete surrounds the local system. A good navigator can do it anyway, resulting in destruction of the ship and death of everyone on board.
Ultimate test of navigator skills. The warning is extra vigilant about collisions with a sun. The best navigators can successfully plot and carry out this fiery death.

King's Bounty: The Legend  1C Company;Atari;Paradox Interactive (Katauri Interactive)2008King's Bounty: The Legend is an adventure game with tactical turn-based battles and role-playing elements. In a fairy tale fantasy world of fearless knights, evil mages, wise kings and beautiful princesses the player controls a hero. Leading their character through the game world, exploring it, commanding armies in battle and accomplishing various quests can mean great reward or huge defeats.

Gameplay is divided into two major sections: adventure mode and battle mode. While playing in adventure mode the gamer controls their character in real-time. With several classes available at the start of a new game, the player moves through the adventure map seeking various treasures, fighting monsters and accomplishing quests tasked to him by the local stewards. Once in battle mode the gamer assumes the role of a war chief, leading his troops in tactical turn-based combat. Battles take place on land or sea, in dungeons or castles or even in some items! The hero himself doesn't participate in the combat, but can assist his troops by casting spells or summoning different creatures.***Una gran mezcla de estrategia y combate por turnos, al estilo de Might and Magic.

Nostalgia  Tecmo;Ignition Entertainment (Tecmo;Red;Matrix Software)2008ノスタルジオ literally reads
nosutarujio
, which is not transliteration of 'nostalgia' (ノスタルジア) but close to it.

Nostalgeo is used in the Japanese website's URL as the proper reading of it, Wikipedia uses a more sensible -io ending, but they're less authoritative on the issue. Since the only difference is the last letter (a replaced with o), the -io reading seems to be the correct one despite this.***Set in an alternate-reality version of 19th-century Earth, Nostalgia casts you as Eddie, a headstrong Londoner who amasses a group of memorable companions to traverse the world in his steampunk-inspired zeppelin. As you navigate the open skies, you'll explore mysterious foreign locales, slay all manner of fantastical enemies, complete a variety of thrilling quests, and ultimately, save the world from unfathomable evil.

Allods Online  Nival Online;Gala Networks Europe (Astrum Nival)2009Personally I hate the fact that parties are only formed for mobs that require about 10 or so people to work together ("raid") to defeat. Besides that, parties don't seem to be formed and everyone is soloing. If parties were formed more readily (and actually needed by more than the support classes, such as the healer), I might consider this a good game, but woe, it does not. There's a high variety in the available classes, but the annoyingly non-existant need to work together like in some other MMOs just makes this a very boring single-player experience.

Of course, I don't know about high level stuff since leveling up there on solo takes a looong time. Fact which has escaped me for quite some time, since partying would speed this up, but no-one wants to form parties.***Open beta starts on 2010-02-16.***2009-10-01 Open Beta starts in Russia***Minimum:
