Policenauts Konami1995Game description from [[link:http://policenauts.net/ Policenauts.net]]:

Policenauts is an incredible game directed by Kojima Hideo and realized by Konami. Unfortunately all versions of this game are only available in it's original Japanese language, although it is commonly believed that the game was planned from the beginning to have an English version and that it was cancelled.

Private Colelction Image The game features digitized anime and stills achieving what was called in it's trailers as 'The next generation of Snatcher'. Adding to the genre it achieves a richer interface by using a cursor to select items displayed on screen (in some versions aided by a mouse) and more dynamic shooting sequences that are not limited to a 3x3 grid. The Sega Saturn version even has gun support, being the last version that was released of the game.

The detail, depth of story, character definition, visuals that include Computer Graphics incredibly advanced for it's time and an impressive soundtrack have made hundreds of fans desire a translated version, and those that have played it cherish it as one of the greatest pieces of interactive digital art created. Kojima has demonstrated through multiple references in Metal Gear Solid that this is one of his favorite creations, for instance the small piece of music played during the Konami logo in Metal Gear Solid is from this game; Meryl first appeared on this title; the Marine's computer OS in Metal Gear Solid 2 tanker scene was created by Tokugawa; the video shown while Otacon speaks about anime and the posters hanging from the wall (replaced by Anubis references in the Twin Snakes version); some card board boxes in MGS 2; the EMPS in Zone of the Enders and even a poster in MGS2 to name the ones I know about.

But the most important evidence that this is a game that Kojima really appreciates, is simply that he has been involved as director in every single version and port of the game, unlike Snatcher and Metal Gear.

Final Fantasy VII  Square1997Final Fantasy VII has quickly become one of the best-selling Role Playing games of all time. Combining fully polygonal characters with pre-rendered backgrounds and a stirring musical score by Nobuo Uematsu, Final Fantasy VII is a worthwhile addition to any RPG collection. The story centers on the young mercenary Cloud Strife, who is fighting against the evil Shinra, Inc. Along the way, he meets an unforgettable cast of characters such as his childhood friend Tifa Lockhart and the grumpy pilot Cid Highwind. All together, it is an unforgettable and engrossing single-player game that can last for over 60 hours!***

[27]***Final Fantasy VII, is one of the best game avalaible for the PSX, the graphics are impressive, the sound Incredible, has more than 1 hour of Full motion Video, and the best of all the storyline is amazing, superb, if you like the RPG the you must have This game. And the VIII too.***This is personally my least favourite Final Fantasy. They did well with the conversion to 3D, but I found the lack of decent story, the bad translation, the below average graphics etc. to be quite a turn off while playing. However, on the flip side of the coin, the spell effects are unrivalled by any other game of its time. The Materia system was an interesting devlopment, but all in all the game is too unbalanced to make it a truly enjoyable experience.***As far as I'm concerned, I think the complete opposite. The graphics were in no way bad for PSX at that time. The combat system was even more balanced than in V or VI, while the story is so huge as to draw you in and flash through the amazing 30 hours of gameplay. Oh and the translation is no worse than most other Japanese RPGs, the PC version tidied this up a bit I think. Plus Sephiroth's sword is kick-butt.***Witness the birth of the 3D RPG. Well, not quite, but a gigantic game with an incredible storyline, coupled with real-time action combat that had be honed through 6 previous games. A favourite instantly, this game brought RPGs out of Japan and selling widely in the West for the first time.***This game was one of the most enveloping games I have ever played. The story was decent (to say the least), and the musical score was heartwarming. I will remember it forever.
[DeviantBlade]***FF7 is seriously overrated, and has produced more fanboys/fangirls than I'd care to count. However it's not all bad, it's pretty decent.
Just not as godly as some would make it out to be.
[Haoie]***I agree with Haoie (above). Actually, got to like the second or third disc and stopped playing. The mini-games and all the damn little secrets were starting to wear me out. I give it credit for being the RPG that brought Japanese RPGs to the masses in the West, but that's about it.
[cjlee001]***Lack of story?! That man seems to not know what a good storyline is... I love this game. If I could play it in my sleep I would...

Resident Evil 2  Capcom1998Picking up where Resident Evil left off, RE2 takes place only a few months after what happened in the original game. This time, the entire town of Raccoon City is hit with the devastating virus that turned people into zombies in the orginal game. Now, it's up to rookie cop Leon Kennedy, and Claire Redfield to save not only themselves but any and all survivors!
This is one game that has some of the best unique camera angles, storyline, graphics, sound effects, and music. Definitely worth a look!***In RE2, there are 2 playable characters [and 2 more secret]. When 1 scenario is done, you can take the role of the other to see things from their perspective. And let's not forget all the zombie blasting that has to be done. Set mainly in the Raccon City Police Department.

Parasite Eve  Square1998Set in modern-day New York City, PARASITE EVE puts the player in the role of NYPD officer Aya Brea as she attempts to solve the mystery of Eve, a young woman responsible for a string of gruesome deaths and accidents in the city. Transformed by self-aware mitochondria, Eve possesses the power to mutate animals into brutal killing machines, spontaneously ignite the innocent, and generally make a mess of everything she comes in contact with. PARASITE EVE is a cinematic RPG from the master of the genre, Squaresoft.***One of them is a police officer. The other is possessed by an ancient evil threatening all life on Earth. The horrifying bond between them will continue until something dies. A chilling adventure that could only come from the creators of "Final Fantasy VII." An epic tale told through stunning 3D rendered sequences. Battle mutant monsters in real-time polygon combat. Customize weapons, armor, and character abilities.***Based on a Japanese novel hence the intriguing story. Come on, you didn't really think that gamers made this story did you?

The Fifth Element  Sony;Hudson;Activision (Kalisto)1998The universe is under attack by something from an alternate dimension, and only THE FIFTH ELEMENT can stop the invasion. Take control of Leeloo and Korben Dallas as they travel through 20 levels of action and excitement while trying to save the world. Both characters have special skills and abilities that are required to successfully navigate the game's varied stages, and you'll have to master both to be successful. Discover the truth behind THE FIFTH ELEMENT and save the world.***Based on the hit movie of the same name, the Fifth Element is an adventure that is out of this world. You'll need to play both the role of the alien born femme fetale and the taxi cab driver, turned hero in this fast paced game that has you solve puzzles and fight it out with the enemy. labelimagesubject
Final Fantasy VIII  Square1999Ultimate character customization "Junction system" Junction system is G. F. (Summoned Beast, Guardian Force) is a system that strengthens abilities by junctioning items (other than items such as items and weapons) to characters.
In addition, remember the junction abilities (attack power junction, defense power junction etc.), you can further enhance the character by junctioning magic (Thunder, Fire etc.) to its abilities. In other words, you can customize characters indefinitely by combining character × abilities x magic.***Final Fantasy VIII, the sequel to Squaresoft's first PlayStation RPG, doesn't feature any of the characters from the original, but it does continue to deliver great gameplay. The story this time centers on Squall Leonhart, a young man in the military who is soon pulled into an adventure that spans the globe. Along the way, other characters can be recruited, ranging from the always-hyper Selphie to the egotistical Irvine. Nobuo Uematsu, who has composed the music for every Final Fantasy game, again scores the music. Featuring 3D characters and pre-rendered backgrounds, Final Fantasy VIII is one of the most impressive looking games ever.***

[27]***FF8 is the most controversial from 7, 8 and 9. This is due to the radically different gameplay system. Examples of this include enemies that level with you, requiring component parts to make new weapons, and junctioning magic to make attributes higher. Personally, I loved it.
[Haoie]***This is, without a doubt, the worst of the final fantasies. No armor, No shopping for weapons, An extremely annoying system for aquiring gil... These all together could be overlooked, even with the so-so graphics.
The Real Killer, though, is the main character. Squall is nothing but an uncaring, insensitive, pompous, conceited, jerk. The fact that he 'gets better' later in the game doesn't matter... If you don't want to get there with him in the first place.

Army Men: World War  3DO2000War has been declared, and it's a vicious battle between your forces, the Green Army, and the opposing Tan army. Throughout each of the 25 missions, you must carefully maneuver your troops through a variety of environments, including beachheads, jungles, and urban settings.
At your disposal are a ton of new weapons, including grenades, mortars, howitzers, and flamethrowers. Call in strategic napalm air strikes or a swarm of paratroopers, or pierce enemy plastic from a distance with your sniper rifle! Fans of the original Army Men should definitely check this one out!

Chrono Cross  Square2000While it's officially a sequel to the immensely popular Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross is completely its own role-playing game with over 40 characters, a branching story line, and multiple endings. Like its predecessor, the game is about crossing through time and setting things right. This story focuses on Serge's quest for the Frozen Flame, which will give the beholder the power to bend space and time. Serge wants the power to save himself from dying in a parallel universe but, as you can guess, nefarious forces are also vying for the Frozen Flame to suit their own purposes. Chrono Cross features the stylish character designs and wondrous cut scenes that gamers have come to expect from SquareSoft, but the game also has a number of gameplay innovations. Though the battle engine is essentially turn-based, characters don't have to wait their turn to cast a spell or make an attack; battles are moderated by stamina. Also, the repetitive battles with lesser monsters that make so many RPGs sag can be easily avoided because all monsters can be seen on the screen.***Sequel to the legendary Chrono Trigger (SNES). And a rather disappointing one in my opinion... there's almost no character development (I mean seriously, how do you develop like a hundred characters?) and the crappy battle system was the final nail in the coffin.
