Flak Attack	Konami	1987	Flak Attack is a cool game where you fly over a vertically scrolling terrain (similar to Raiden) and either bomb or shoot other jets, tanks, gun turrets... etc. The different levels take you from forrests to jungles to mountains. You even get to fly over a massive caldera full of molten lava. Every level ends with a Boss. The musical score is awesome, as are the graphics for the time. Sound is mediocre, and the challenge is good. I'd rate this game as a 7 on a scale of 1 to 10, even with todays more advanced games.

Air Combat 22	Namco	1995	Air Combat 22 is the arcade sequel to the first Air Combat in the long running Ace Combat series. You pilot one of three planes, a F14 Tomcat, Su-27 or the F22 Raptor. The sequel comes with improved graphics and again uses semi-realistic physics. The objective is to destroy enemy planes using guns or missiles over a succession of sorties and missions. A radar shows the location of enemy planes in relation to your own and on-screen arrows point towards the nearest enemy. Each mission starts with a enemy counter that decreases as enemy planes are dispatched of. The enemy count has to be taken down to zero before a timer runs out, else it is game over. A bonus stage has the player landing on an aircraft carrier for points. Later missions involve air-to-air refuelling and attacking enemy aircraft carriers and bases. [Moby Games]
19XX: The War Against Destiny	Capcom	1996	19XX: The War Against Destiny is a 2D vertical scrolling shooter game taking place against a fictional background, unlike the preceding installments of the series, which used a World War II setting. The game offers three planes to choose from - Lightning, Mosquito and Shinden. Each aircraft has it's own statistics and special weapon. As usual, there are upgrades and a supply of bombs. The bombs can be charged up for more powerful effects. Another familiar element are boss battles at the end of stages, where a particularly strong enemy must be defeated to advance. This time you have the choice to board the P-38 Lightning or Mitsubishi A6M Zero WWII planes and test your shooting skills in 15 stages. Like its predecessor, 19XX: The War Against Destiny, it features a charge up system. When holding down the fire button, the charge bar will fill, and when full, the plane will fly up and become temporarily invincible. Players start out with only one life.
