Chiller Exidy1986When the arcade market crashed, just before the 1984 home mark crash, Exidy cut costs where ever they could. Some people went without pay and work was generally a dreary place with no amenities. The cleaning staff wasn't being paid and wastebaskets were not being emptied. There was not money for an exterminator either. Trash piled up and vermin multiplied. Then spiders proceeded to encase the building in webs (no doubt anticipating the deaths of all the living creatures inside). Once they finished the outside, they moved inside. It was as if the building or Exidy had been cursed. Thus, the inspiration for this game.

Splatterhouse Namco;Tecmo;Sharp1988
[49]***
[69]***Splatterhouse is a straightforward side-scroller with the premise being that you (Rick, I think your name is) have been possessed by the spirit of an ancient (Mayan, maybe?) mask that will give you the strength to defeat various forces of darkness and rescue your (of course helpless) female counterpart from the "Splatterhouse." What makes this game interesting is the fantastic quality of ambience it manages to create, with excellent sound and graphics creating a truly scary arcade game. Only Uninvited and Silent Hill match Splatterhouse for creepiness. It also has some choice of paths to take, which adds replayability. A fun game with inventive enemies and ways to splatter them.

Mortal Kombat 3  Bally Midway;Williams1995Mortal Kombat 3 is a fighting video game developed by Midway / Atari Games and first released into arcades in 1995. As in the previous games, it has a cast of characters that players choose from and guide through a series of battles against other opponents. The game avoids the tournament storyline of its predecessors, as various warriors instead fight against the returning Shao Kahn, who has resurrected his bride Sindel and started an invasion of Earthrealm. labelimagesubject
