The Dark Convergence - (Jeff kintz)1993his is a very rare horror adventure game. The plot is simple: one night the player and some friends have a car crash on a near-deserted road. The player is sent out to search for some help and stumbles on an abandoned house. Inside it bloody bodies are found, and unknown menaces from other worlds and other dimensions try to kill the player. Will you survive the night and save the day? The game is programmed in QBasic (there is even the .bas file inside the game's folder) and the engine is similar to the one used in the Hugo's House of Horror series. The player controls the character with arrow keys and types the desired action using the parser. The game focuses on a morbid atmosphere and on violence with many nasty and gory situations in it. The plot and atmosphere for some ideas are reminiscent of Dark Seed. labelimagesubject
The Dark Convergence II  - (Jeff kintz)1994This is the sequel to The Dark Convergence and takes place some time after the end of the original game. The player has survived the horrible night, but his mind is deeply scarred by the horrors he had to face. In fact, the player lives as a bum, wandering aimlessly on the streets, not capable of retrieving his own lost sanity. A new horrid menace may be lurking underneath the apparent calm and may be linked to the psychiatrist who is searching for the player. This game uses the same engine as the original game with similar gameplay and atmospheres. labelimagesubject
Weird Island - (Kevin Lee)1992Weird Island is a graphic adventure which uses an original 'point and click' interface, eradicating the need for typing of complex sentences. It features graphic illustrations of every location from a first person perspective. This allows you to take part in the game as yourself not some computer character. The plot of the game is as follows: labelimagesubject

Softporn II ?1985In the shadowy dives of Hoboken, New York, a lust-crazed man seals a final tryst with an old flame on the eve of her permanent relocation to far Denmark with her husband.

This is a game that simulates a sexual exchange between a man (the player) and a simulated woman. Taking initial user input for the players' names, personality traits and measurements, it equips them with appropriate adjectives and behaviors and points them in the direction of the player's garret.

Actual game input overlooks the strengths of a text parser, with viable options including various combinations of vanilla erogenous zones with hands and mouths. When the arousal levels of both parties is sufficient (both the male being flagged with "hard" status and the woman with "wet" -- indicated by the game via the report command) simulated penetration is allowed.

Under a Killing Moon Access Software1994It's December, 2042. And you're the only P.I. that follows the old steps of Philip Marlow, Spade, and other classic detectives. This time, the world depends upon you. How? Why? It's not for me to tell. Take your gun, and see what'll be next. Well, you'll drop it via the window accidentally, but I guess that won't stop you from solving the case. Under A Killing Moon, unlike the Tex Murphy adventures that came before it, takes place in a world whose locations are pure 3D in which you have full maneuverability. You can even look for clues underneath desks, chairs, etc. Other features include an online hint system (that decreases your final score the more you use it), extensive support for additional sound/music devices, and full-motion video technology.***

Simon the Sorcerer II - The Lion, The Wizard & The Wardrobe  Adventure Soft1995A sequel to Simon the Sorcerer, this second game in the series gives us more mis-adventures from our teenaged sorcerer (of some sort). Thrown into another dimension by his own wardrobe, Simon starts the heroic mission (of some sort) to find -another wardrobe that could get him back home. Equipped with his pointy sorcerer's hat (of some sort), he will also rescue the world (again) from the evil Sordid. It's a point-and-click adventure in a style similar to the first Simon game, only technologically improved. The two games in the series are of the most charming low-profile games ever that have captured many an adventurer's heart. It has difficult but fair puzzles, witty dialogues, and inimitable self-effacing humor and charm. A couple of things are new: the word commands (like 'talk to' and 'look at') have been replaced by Icons (a Magnifying Glass and a Mouth), and some scenes can be scrolled now, so make sure you always check the edges of every screen for new locations.***

Alien Carnage  Apogee (Interactive Binary Illusions;SubZero Software)1993Earth is on the verge of a takeover by aliens intent on turning humans into mindless slave zombies, who can be used in their conquest of the universe. Harry's called into action to Space Station Liberty and given orders to penetrate the alien ship which has burrowed itself under a high-rise city.

In addition to the flamethrower, Harry can use weapon dispensers, giving him access to weapons like the photon cannon, guided missiles, grenades, shields, micro nukes, and the very powerful Omega bomb. It's an arsenal that will have the aliens shakin' in their slimy shoes.

Duke Nukem  Apogee1991Originally called Duke Nukem, but Apogee changed it to Duke Nukum in version 2 in fear of lawsuit from the creators of Captain Planet where identically named villain was present. The name was changed back (for the sequels) to Duke Nukem when Apogee found out the name wasn't registered. I have no idea if Duke Nukem was released before v2, though. Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold Apogee Software (JAM Productions)1993One year after Wolfenstein 3D, the same engine was used in another game. This was released one week before id Software took over the world with the shareware release of Doom. Doom squashed it; Blake Stone sold poorly despite positive reviews. id even had a stake in Blake Stone, it build the texture mapping engine for the game. The game takes place in the future. You are agent "Blake", who has to accomplish some missions. The goal is to stop the evil doctor "Goldfire", who created some aliens. The game consists of six episodes, each of which features 11 levels, nine regular and two secret. The elimination of all enemies on the current floor or the collection of all treasure items are optional objectives that provide bonuses upon completion. In the game ceiling and floor are texturized, which was new. There were no terrain heights, but you could use elevators to get back into levels you already played. Special level features include: locked doors which can be opened by four types of colored keys (gold, green, yellow, blue), one-way doors, secret rooms accessible through pushable wall blocks, and teleports that instantly take the player into another location within the level. There's also lighting effects and an automap function, sorely missed in Wolfenstein 3D. Calling this automap also shows your your current progress, rating and percentage of enemies killed. And there are crates you can shoot. They will explode and sometimes reveal some goodies. Another unique feature of the game is the fact that Dr. Goldfire appears periodically in certain sections on different levels and will actually attack Stone. After being hit a few times, he activates a teleporter on his watch and escapes. There are several weapons available, more than there are in Wolfenstein 3D. Also included are features such as clipping, and invisibility, and auto-mapping. Really new were in-game characters, who were not always hostile but sometimes even gave hints. Because of this, the pure "shoot everything that moves"- scheme was not valid anymore. Besides this, the game was not state of the art. The graphics were out-dated and did not look as good as others of that time, Doom and Terminator Rampage. A nice game of that time, but it did not manage to stand out. labelimagesubject
Realms of Chaos Apogee Software1995Lead the bravest couple of "Mysteria" through their biggest adventure. Free the people from vile creatures and destroy the source of all evil. The game features 26 levels, 4 Endbosses + 1 Extra-Boss.
The first part/episode of the game is shareware.

Wolfenstein 3D  Apogee;Activision;GT Interactive (id Software)1992***A fun run-and-gun FPS (one of the pioneers of the genre) with a simple goal in mind: kill nazis.
It has not aged well (its palette is very harsh to the sight, and its control feels clunky), but still its minoic level design (filled with secrets) and its variety of levels (from the ubermensch/zombie army of mission 2 to the secret nightmare of mission 4) make it a nice title.
Its simpleness is its best virtue; nonetheless this game was made to be hard.

7 of 10, would kill mystic führers again.***Maybe it was the fact that people got to blow away Nazis. Maybe it was the sheer challenge of it all. For whatever reason, Wolfenstein 3D and Spear of Destiny, pioneered the first-person shooter genre and brought its legendary creators, id Software, worldwide notoriety and numerous awards. In fact, The Computer Gaming World Hall of Fame recognized Wolfenstein 3D as helping to shape the overall direction of the computer gaming industry.
[Steam Store]***
[52]***They also released a mission pack titles "The Nocturnal Missions" with three more episodes. Later releases of Wolfenstein 3D would include these mission pack episodes and thus had six episodes instead of only the three original episodes.***Third game in the Wolfenstein series.

1st version published by Apogee. Republished later by Activision Publishing and again by GT Interactive.

Auf der Suche nach Dr. Gara ARAG (Promotion Software)1994This is a free advertising game to promote ARAG insurance company. We have to go to Dinotown to solve the mystery of the prehistoric beings populating the city. Well, that's about the entire plot. First, we are approached by a dangerous dinosaur that compels us to enter name and address in a form, so that we come into possession of an identity document. We then find us on orientation map again, which makes up virtually the most gameplay. So we are at any of the countless villages only a short time and then land again on the map - assuming you will not be eaten by a giant lizard, because you have given a wrong answer. You go aimlessly through this area. There is an ice cream parlor, a car dealership, a golf course, a hospital, a radio tower, yes, even a disco. Only the ARAG insurance agency that employs the only human contact can help out sometimes. In addition, in the inventory a lot of great items are accumulated, which can not be considered because you do not know in 80% of cases what they are supposed to represent. There are no right puzzles, the difficulty is to find out at what place in Dinotown currently something can be done. The game seems designed for children and the graphics are static. labelimagesubject

Mission Supernova author1994This is a shareware adventure in German. The player is "Horst Hummel", the spaceship's chef de cuisine. Usually this would be a job without much stress, but when you wake up, the whole crew is gone. You're alone on board. The game is a classic point & click adventure. It features a verb-based interface very similar to early LucasArts games, e.g. Zak McKracken or Maniac Mansion. Like in those games, gameplay mainly consists of exploring rooms/scenes, collecting various items and solving puzzles. Some items can be combined to form new items, and most of the puzzles require clever use of collected things. From time to time, talking to other characters is also necessary, which involves choosing among different dialog options. Some scenes have a time limit, and it is also possible to die or get stuck in various ways. Scenes are rather static, there is no scrolling in rooms. The main character itself is not visible in game, somewhat similar to Myst, although the perspective is not really first-person. You can interact with items at the other side of the room without actually moving there. It's split into two episodes. Teil 1: Das Schicksal des Horst Hummel was available for free, whereas Teil 2: Der Doppelgänger had to be ordered for money (shareware model). Both episodes were made freeware in 2002.***The game splits into two parts. The first one was offered as shareware program and if registered you got access to the second part as well. Eventually both parts were offered as freeware for download. The first part was kinda nice for a non-commercial adventure game, but the second part really annoyed me with a pyramid maze, a sliding puzzle (I doubt it had a parity check) and other nasty puzzles where I gave up (even with a walkthrough). labelimagesubject

Arnie Goes 4 Gold Bank Austria AG (Top Job)1994This is a promotional game by an Austrian bank. It's a humorous adventure which plays with many Austrian stereotypes - it begins with the name of the protagonist: Arnie. After the death of his rich uncle Fritz he inherits a key to a house - but first he has to find it. The handling is similar to the SCUMM system found in the classic LucasArts adventures: You select between six verbs to interact with your surroundings. Unlike most adventures you can take several objects with you which have no use in the game. The puzzles mostly center around finding hidden items and using them in a creative way. And, of course, the usage of services provided by Bank Austria. This game was linked with a lottery. labelimagesubject
Berlin Connection Berliner Morgenpost (Promotion Software)1994In the game you are Benny, a youngster from Berlin, who is bored of his loneliness. So you go to discotheque and meet a beautiful girl Mora. The main goal in the game is to make a good relationship with her, talking correctly to her and other people and using inventory items. Also Tom, a reporter of Berliner Morgenpost, is present in the game. This was a German advertising adventure that was a part of a targeted campaign for the recovery of young readers for the newspaper Berliner Morgenpost. labelimagesubject
Bi-Fi Roll: Action in Hollywood  Bi-Fi Roll (The Art Department)1994This is a free German advertising adventure for "Bi-Fi", a popular salami brand in Germany. Players take the role of Lukas, whose job is being a bike courier during the summer school break. One day he has to deliver the script for the new Bi-Fi commercial to the film studios. Suddenly he finds himself in a crime scene. The studio boss has been kidnapped, the spot production is being sabotaged and he is to solve the mystery. It's a typical point-and-click adventure game with a humorous plot and one of the best of these type. labelimagesubject
Captain Bible in Dome of Darkness  Bridgestone Multimedia1994During installation, the user has the option of censoring Bible verses dealing with "marriage, divorce, and fornication" from appearing in the game. The user can also chose that only a single version of the Bible be available, rather than having King James, New International Version, Revised Standard Version, and The Living Bible available to choose during the game. The user also has the option of removing all actions and references dealing with combat (with Deception Cyber robots) except the end-game sequence that includes an explosion. But the user is warned that removing combat removes action, makes the game easier and less fun. labelimageminimize
Die Goldene Mähne des Samson Brinkmann Niemeyer (Advertising Games)1994One of the German advertising point-and-click adventures poular in the 90s, this one was made by the tobacco company Samson. It's reminiscent of an old dungeon crawler, but it is in fact a true adventure. The player's task is to find the golden mane of Samson. In addition to the adventure, it has five minigames for distraction. These can be started at any time and offer little games such as Go, Mahjongg and Pinball. labelimagesubject

Dunkle Schatten Bundesministerium des Innern (The Art Department)1994Dunkle Schatten is a point-and-click adventure in the typical LucasArts style. It was distributed for free by the German Federal Ministry of the Interior as a "countermeasure" against violence and anti-semitism. In this adventure, you play as Karsten, a teenager who helps creating a youth centre so the local youth stays off the street and doesn't do things they shouldn't do. But that's easier than thought - there's much disturbance by a local gang of Neonazis. The game wants to show that violence is not an option and every conflict can be solved peacefully. labelimagesubject
Dunkle Schatten 2: Im Netzwerk gefangen Bundesministerium des Innern (The Art Department)1996This German adventure (which means Dark Shadows 2: Trapped in the network) is the sequel to the adventure Dunkle Schatten, also published by the German Federal Ministry of Interior as part of the FAIRSTÄNDNIS campaign against racism and violence. The game's a point-and-click adventure with an interface reminding of the later Sierra adventures. It is greatly improved over the first part as it now uses SVGA screen resolution. The story is set two years after the first. You again play as Karsten who this time has to deal with Neonazis defacing the memorial stone for a long dead, Jewish town mayor. And some classmate of his seem to be involved as he distributes Nazi computer games... labelimagesubject
Skyworker Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Technologie (The Art Department)1994It's the 22nd century. To unburden the situation in the crowded cities huge platforms with research facilities, factories and living areas have been built in the sky. You play a young man or woman who has just finished school and gets the chance to live in SkyCity, one of those platforms. But there is one condition. You have to find an apprenticeship within three months if you don't want to be sent back to the surface.

Skyworker is a game by the German Federal Ministry for Economics and Labour that simulates the application process for an apprenticeship. In fact, Skyworker is a life simulation. With your teleporter you visit different locations in the city like a bar, a casino, drugstores or shops where you can buy things and meet people who give you tips about applications or other locations in the city. To earn money you can do temporary jobs which are presented as a mini-game in which you have to arrange figures by their appearance for instance.

Within three months you have to find an apprenticeship. If you are not sure for what job you want to apply for you can go to career counselling. In multiple choice questions they try to find out which job suits to you. Afterwards you can go to a training center where you can improve your skills.

After having created a curriculum vitae you can contact enterprises and are invited to an interview in which the boss tries to find out if you have appropriate skills and are informed about the content of the job you are applying for. The next day you get either a declination or an invitation to an aptitude test. The test consists of 14 exercises about general education, logical thinking and mathematics. If you pass the test, you have the job but the game won't be over yet...

Nephi's Quest Compuclassics;Eagle Marketing (TechnoCrafts Unlimited)1990This game is considered to be of the historical genre to those who believe it to be true. Intended to be played by a family.

Requires 8088/86 CPU, 8mhz recommended, 512 KB RAM, CGA/EGA/MCGA/Tandy/PCjr/VGA video, Optional PC Speaker, Joystick, Mouse, Keyboard.

The specifying of an 8 mhz CPU suggests an overclocked IBM PC/AT, overclocked PS/2, or odd PC clone as the recommended system. Such things were actually offered by IBM and some clone manufacturers but this was hardly the most common thing especially in 1990 (many old systems were 6 mhz and under or most were 16mhz and over).

Universe Core Design1994Universe is a decent sci-fi adventure that features some interesting gadget-oriented puzzles, although the banal plot and bad writing sink the game to obscurity. Nevertheless, Core Design's second effort in the adventure genre is a better game in every respect than the awful Curse of Enchantia. The interface is also rather awkward, so only those with a lot of patience will go through this long journey through different sparsely-populated planets. It is no wonder why Core never tried their hands at writing another adventure game. Given how popular Tomb Raider has become, they have certainly found their true calling.***This is a graphical point & click adventure game unrelated to the earlier Universe game by Omnitrend. labelimagesubject
