Marathon 2: Durandal Bungie Software1996In 2000 the Aleph One engine remake became available.***Released for free by Bungie at some point, as both datafiles (for running under Aleph One) and as the original CD-image (.iso file).

The game installer is 16 bit executable, so you can't install it on 64 bit Windows as support for them was dropped. Game itself is 32 bit, so if you manage to install it, playing it won't be an issue on 64 bit system.

Fallout Interplay (Black Isle Studios)1997A great post-apocalyptic RPG, with good atmosphere and great feeling about scarceness of resources.
Sadly, is too short, but with an incredibly good story and even alternative endings.***

Fallout 2  Interplay (Black Isle Studios)1998Improves everything in the first game, especially exploration.
The only thing to blame is a kind of fixed ending in comparition with the first game, and an antagonist not so interesting as The Master.

The village elders have selected you to wear the sacred Vault-suit of your grandsire and, in time, to ascend to the leadership of your people. First you must prove your devotion to your people. Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri  Electronic Arts (Firaxis Games)1999Going under the banner 'Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri', this game had little or no direct input from Sid. It was instead handled by Brian Reynolds and Firaxis Studios.
It is a continuation from Meier's meisterwerk Civilization II, picking up from where that game left off with a colony ship from earth being sent to Alpha Centauri. So it is, ostensibly, 'Civ... but in space!'.
This is a sweeping statement, but AC borrows very heavily from Civ II, hardly touching the game mechanics (why mess with perfection? some would say). Little has been added save a custom unit workshop (as seen in many strategy titles) and automated governance for colonies.
However the new factions are very well balanced and the future technologies believable and genuinely interesting. This game may not do much new, but it copies an old master with style and panache, while cleaning up a few of it's predecessor's rough edges.

Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun  Westwood Studios1999Set in the early 21st century, Tiberian Sun once again pits the Global Defense Initiative against the Brotherhood of Nod in a struggle for control of the planet. With an epic storyline that unfolds as play progresses, players learn the reasons behind the worldwide outbreak of Tiberium and what happened to the notorious Nod leader Kane, who was presumed dead at the end of the first Command & Conquer.

It’s time to head up the Firestorm task force. Nod’s experiments have unknowingly released a horde of cybernetic nightmares upon the world. As GDI and Nod scramble to save themselves, they realize their only salvation lies in the unthinkable.

Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun: Firestorm  Electronic Arts (Westwood Studios)2000Firestorm follows the events as they unfolded in the GDI campaign of Tiberian Sun. With the Brotherhood of Nod fractured into feuding warlords following Kane’s death, Anton Slavik (also called The Serbian Wolf) is determined to keep Kane’s ideology alive through the resurrection of Nod’s highly advanced artificial intelligence, CABAL (Computer Assisted Biologically Augmented Lifeform), while the Global Defense Initiative continues its ongoing campaign to stop the spread of Tiberium and its monstrous mutations by retrieving the extraterrestrial Tacitus device.

GDI and Nod must now join forces in order to overcome Nod’s previous vital assistant in tactical decisions and their current nemesis, CABAL, who intends to conquer the world through the systematic assimilation of human populations into its cyborg armies with the means of Tiberium on a massive scale.

Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars  Electronic Arts (EA Los Angeles)2007CnC3 is probably the hardest strategy game I know, and not because the AI is that good, but because it cheats so much. Even on the so called easy difficulty the game is frustratingly hard to even barely win (later) missions. Besides that I still like it, especially the revised GDI and the all new Scrin faction. As a game I would not recommend this to anyone but the masochistic players or diehard Tiberium series fans.***Latest version: 1.09 (as of ?)***March, 2047. A massive nuclear fireball explodes high in the night sky, marking the dramatic beginning to the Third Tiberium War and long-awaited return of the most groundbreaking Real-time Strategy franchise (RTS) of all time.

The critically-acclaimed Command & Conquer (C&C) series returns with Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars (C&C 3). Setting the standard for the future of RTS gaming once more, C&C 3 takes you back to where it all began—the Tiberium Universe.

In 2047, Tiberium has blanketed the Earth, which is now divided into zones based on the level of Tiberium infestation. Pristine Blue Zones represent 20% of the planet's surface and are the last refuge of the civilized world. Partially habitable Yellow Zones make up 50% of the planet's surface; most of the world's population lives in these war-torn and ecologically ravaged areas. The remaining 30% of the planet is uninhabitable, a Tiberium wasteland swept by violent Ion Storms. Red Zones are like the surface of an Alien planet.

The infamous Kane has returned to lead the Brotherhood of Nod in a massive global assault on the Global Defense Initiative and the few remaining Blue zones left on the planet. Only you can stop him. The fate of humanity – and the planet – is in your hands.

Featuring state-of-the-art, next-generation graphics, an epic story with live action, full-motion video sequences, and the classic fast-paced C&C style of play, C&C 3 sets the standard for the single player RTS experience.

When you decide to test your skills online, a suite of truly innovative features, such as the ability to transform online battles into a spectator sport, unfold.

Command & Conquer 3: Kane's Wrath  Electronic Arts (EA Los Angeles)2008Far more enjoyable to play than the base CnC3 in my experience, and the difficulty options actually work properly in this. In terms of story, Kane's Wrath is sort of a filler, covering things between second and third tiberium wars, clarifying some events of third tiberium war and shows part of the events leading to CnC4. If anyone is ever interested in CnC3, then this is the only reason to get it, besides following the story of Kane (Tiberium series) if you're into that sort of thing. Thisis also very much focused on mutliplayer experience as the story only allows you to play with Nod and its sub-factions and only cursorily demonstrating the new sub-factions for GDI and Scrin.***In the name of Kane! The Command & Conquer™ series continues to thrive with Command & Conquer™ 3: Kane’s Wrath. As the expansion pack to the critically-acclaimed and fan favorite, Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars™, this Real-time Strategy (RTS) game returns to the Tiberium Universe with Kane at the center of an epic new single player campaign spanning 20 years – from the rebirth of the Brotherhood of Nod after the Second Tiberium War through the dramatic events of the Third Tiberium War and beyond. With your help, Commander, the Dark Messiah may rise again!

Fallout 3  Bethesda Softworks (Bethesda Game Studios)2008A spin and rebirth of the saga, brings back a desolate atmosphere but in FPS-packed-action; neverless, the VATS compensates incredibly for the turn-system action.
Sadly, the story empowers epicness over good story, with immortal characters an black/white characters in general (there are exceptions)
But is important for being the predecessor of Fallout: New Vegas, who is better in every way possible and retakes the old developers of Fallout 1 and 2.

Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight  Electronic Arts (EA Los Angeles)2010Includes two campaigns selectable after ~3 tutorial/prologue missions, both of which end in superficially same manner but have their own quirks which may be of interest, though in terms of sequels (if there ever will be such) there's little need for retconning either campaign as they are sufficiently separated/streamlined not to clash with each other (but can't exist simultaneously).

Personally the singleplayer portion is rather pointless with obvious focus on 2-3 player coops or larger pvp matches.

Most of the difficulty on solo/coop games comes from the fact that the enemy isn't limited to 3-6 MCV calldowns like you are and thus can never be truly defeated (usually it isn't the objective and when it is, they don't call new MCVs when one id destroyed).

For anyone wanting good solo game, better look at the older free CnC games (Tiberian Sun for example) or games unrelated to CnC series. Didn't try multiplayer, so it might be more interesting if that's your thing.***In the year 2062, humanity found itself on the brink of extinction. Tiberium, the mysterious, alien crystalline structure that infested Earth for decades and caused years of relentless conflict between the Global Defense Initiative (GDI) and the Brotherhood of Nod, was close to rendering the planet uninhabitable. In the midst of this crisis, Kane, Nod's prophetic leader, emerged from seclusion to deliver GDI the message that he had developed a system that could control Tiberium and harness its power. But he could not build this "Tiberium Control Network" without GDI's cooperation. Thus, the two opposing factions—GDI and Nod—found themselves in a desperate and unlikely alliance to stop Tiberium from extinguishing mankind.

"KANE. GDI. NOD. TIBERIUM. HOW WILL IT END?"
Now, after 15 years, the network is nearly complete. Tiberium is under strict control and our revitalized planet is on the cusp of a new age of prosperity and progress. It is only now that the world's citizens begin to seriously ponder why Kane chose to help, and what he will want in return. These questions and more lead to the dramatic final act of the 15-year Tiberium saga in Command & Conquer 4 Tiberian Twilight.

Kane. GDI. Nod. Tiberium. How will it end? Find out in Command & Conquer 4 Tiberian Twilight, told through gritty live-action cinematics, persistent player progression, and a multitude of innovations to the classic fast and fluid Command & Conquer gameplay.
