install OS limit - refuses installation on NT-based machines, citing DX6 limitations. This can be skipped by adding
-lgntforce
command-line option to the setup program.
adv-xpdistr - there's really no experience, only "cyber modules" which are awarded at varying quantities upon completing tasks related to the main plot and occasionally found from the game world. These are used to buy upgrades to the protagonist's "cyber rig", each subsequent upgrade costing more cyber modules than the last (for skills the initial cost is also much higher than few of the following upgrades to them).
possessed / parasites / body horror - the host remains conscious quite far into the transformation process, often heard pleading to be killed while the parasite controlled body attacks the protagonist. Obviously there's no cure for them besides death (and even if there was, hardly any would wish to live as such horribly mutated creature).

Like System Shock 1, there will be persistent levels (i.e., drop an item on one level, and you could go back later to retrieve it), gameplay elements like logs, inventory, skills, persistent world, leaning, hacking, RPG elements, multiple weapons and enemies, and a compelling storyline. Unlike most other first person shooters, the purpose of System Shock was not to kill everything in sight; nor was it a "find the key to move onto the next level" game. The plot was always present, but not so confining as in traditional shooters—there was almost always more than one task to accomplish. Levels were realistically designed and had logical reasons behind them. It is the principle of System Shock 2 to continue this game design."

Personally I think the game is quite good, and the major criticism from others seems to have been about the extremely dark setting (lack of lighting), but how many horror games do you see in brightly lit environs that still manage to scare you? I doubt any. Creep you out by weirdness, perhaps, but not scare you.

The only gripe I have about the game is that it relies all too much on scripted sequences to scare you, and the mob A.I. seems to be a bit too straightforward to give much challenge as it's quite easy to figure out and once that's done, most situations are ridiculously easy to handle, especially with the virtually infinite ammo you have (not that that's much a surprise as the place _is_ weapons research and manufacturing facility on top of everything else).***Minimum:

Exodus from the Earth  1C Company;Strategy First (Parallax Arts Studio)2008shotguns - a triple-barreled shotgun.***Latest version: retail***Exodus From the Earth is a a CyberPunk FPS taking place in 2016. Mankind believes it'll be five billion years before the Earth begins to die. However, recent findings show that the earth is living its last twenty years and the Sun is to become an ever-increasing "Red Giant", burning everything around it and turning the Earth into a lifeless hell. The population is now faced with the monumental task of either adapting human beings for living in extraterrestrial conditions, or finding an Earth-like planet where people can live.

The A.X. Corporation, which now rules the Earth, and is the largest genetic and space military engineering company, has undertaken the task of conducting research. After a while, the Corporation offered the technology that could allow human beings to survive in any alien extraterrestrial environment. On a distant planet they found a mineral from which they could produce a vaccine that would allow human beings to live in any environment. The Corporation's proposal was to inject their vaccine into every person and then move to some other planet beyond the solar system.

Despite the fact that the first experiments have been successful, the Government has been very confused being entirely dependent on the Corporation. And furthermore, nobody knows how the mineral will affect human organisms. At the same time, according to their information there was an astronaut, John Rick, who had supposedly found a so-called "Second Earth" which was a planet with an Earth-like environment. Based on secret information, John Rick returned from his space expedition and disappeared. The Intelligence Agency suspects the Corporation, headed by Jack Crizby, of removing John Rick in order to conquer all of mankind for their financial interests.

Harry Southgate, who is the head of The Intelligence Agency, has commissioned the main hero whose name is Francis Rixon, to find out what is happening inside the Corporation's confines and to get the information about the mineral and the Earth-like planet, should it really exist.

Mike Sullivan – an owl at the territory of the A.X. Corporation – is working to help Frank in reaching his goal. Mike is the Chief Security Guard of the Corporation's inside locations and his mission is to lead Frank to the head office of the A.X. Corporation where all the information might be stored.

And so the game begins...

The Ball Tripwire Interactive (Teotl Studios)2010A clever puzzle/action-adventure game with heavy emphasis on puzzling and combat using the titular ball. The story is obviously slapped on top as beyond finding the ball, why the protagonist keeps going for miles and miles underground, dropping down immensely deep chutes with no way back and so forth is beyond comprehension and the initial curiosity one can blame on him being archeologist hardly explains why he doesn't just study what he finds and stick around the hole he fell in through to wait for the promised rescue (which he seemingly could've relied on quite easily).

SOMA Frictional Games2015This is a sci-fi horror game from the creators of Amnesia: The Dark Descent. It is an unsettling story about identity, consciousness, and what it means to be human. Underwater facility PATHOS-II has suffered an intolerable isolation and we’re going to have to make some tough decisions. What can be done? What makes sense? What is left to fight for? Enter the world of SOMA and face horrors buried deep beneath the ocean waves. Delve through locked terminals and secret documents to uncover the truth behind the chaos. Seek out the last remaining inhabitants and take part in the events that will ultimately shape the fate of the station. But be careful, danger lurks in every corner: corrupted humans, twisted creatures, insane robots, and even an inscrutable omnipresent A.I. You will need to figure out how to deal with each one of them. Just remember there’s no fighting back, either you outsmart your enemies or you get ready to run. In Dec/2017, a Safe Mode option was added for players not to get attacked by monsters as the most popular fan mod was a similar "Wuss Mode".***
