The first video game about One-on-one was released in 1975.

Electronic Arts, D3 Publisher and Atari has published most of these games

This is for one person against another, not one faction against another.

Most fighting games are one-on-one contests, but this is not a requirement for them (tag team and the more freeform fighting games are notable deviations from it). For other games this is more unusual, though sports comes likely as the second most common case.
