Ammo regeneration is likely most commonly seen with energy based weapons with general regenerating energy supply draining away as they're fired, usually allowing for sustained fire for a while before player must wait for the energy pool to replenish.
Gameplay wise this can be identical to unlimited ammo with a weapon that overheats with continued use.
