Electronic Arts, Valve and Screenplay has published most of these games

* Instant death or increased damage on head strikes
* Dropping wielded weapon(s) on strikes to arms/hands
* Lowered damage on arms and legs
* Separate health for each body part

If the game only reports "critical hits", we can NOT assume it has location-based damage even though that is the only reasonable answer. It needs to be visibly so or otherwise implicitly targetable.
