Usually a secondary attack, needs the player to stop using the main weapon while charging, to release the charged shot few seconds later.

Some weapons may allow holding the maximum charge for a time or indefinitely before releasing, others may automatically discharge upon reaching maximum charge. And yet others may require manual discharging before the charge harms the player or simply disappears.
