Generally seen in top-down games where the going ons aren't so personal, so the cinematic camera brings you down to the grunt level to make the experience more gripping.
A bit questionable mode considering it usually prevents controlling your minions while supposedly providing a more enjoyable visual experience. For turn-based games this makes more sense, though may not really improve the game any. Fortunately this seems to be always optional.
