The player is not in control of a single character, but the collective consciousness of a group, nation or species.

Notable people involved: Ron Carmel, Peter Molyneux, Will Wright, Kyle Gabler and Glenn Corpes

Alternate names: Hive mind, Group consciousness

In case the player encounters an entity described by this, use hive mind instead.
Since "protagonist" implies a single character, this group does not therefore have it in its name despite being related to the other protagonist tags.
Regardless, this serves the same purpose as other protagonist tags.

Often the player is in control of a director, commander, monarch or some other character in control of large numbers of creatures, but some completely omit having a protagonist of any kind, and therefore the only possibility that remains is that the player is instead the collective consciousness of the group.
