Player can trivially jettison components, gear/equipment (such as worn armor), or similar. Usually for similar purposes as jettisoning cargo.

For vehicles this means pretty much anything. For people this should mean anything that isn't in their hands right then (held weapons, tools, etc. are commonly possible to drop if there's any need for it, thus not really interesting).
Exact purpose varies, but commonly carries a notable speed boost though at a risk of actually needing what you drop/jettison too soon (and in case of vehicles may not be so easy to put back to use).
The emphasis here is on the triviality of the action. Needing to enter inventory screen and drag items off is quite far from what this is for. Though few buttons in normal gameplay is acceptable (e.g. one to initiate jettison, second to point which slot or similar to do so with).
