Deadly water

Video game concept

Getting in water causes death, either instantly or after short exposure.

The first video game about Deadly water was released in 1982.

Capcom, Hewson and Electronic Arts has published most of these games

* Death pits
* Oxygen
* Shallow water (possible safe kind of water even if submersion causes death)
This was common in early games and raised scorn and jokes about the protagonist's inability to swim. Generally seen as only a graphic variation of bottomless pits.

This is NOT for cases where prolonged submersion causes harm or death due to oxygen supply running out.

Some games allow splashing about in ankle deep water without any harm, but complete submersion is an instakill case.
