* Death pits
* Oxygen
* Shallow water (possible safe kind of water even if submersion causes death)
This was common in early games and raised scorn and jokes about the protagonist's inability to swim. Generally seen as only a graphic variation of bottomless pits.

This is NOT for cases where prolonged submersion causes harm or death due to oxygen supply running out.

Some games allow splashing about in ankle deep water without any harm, but complete submersion is an instakill case.
