Deinonychus

Creatures theme

Its very large hands may have been feathered. This species lead to the bird-dinosaur & warmblooded theories. It was likely an intelligent pack hunter. Often confused with velociraptors.

Scientists say this species is closely related to the velociraptors which have been proven by science to have been feathered. Unlike raptors, it used its mouth and horrible razor foot claw to attack pray rather than its 'hand claws' and foot claws. The feathered hands (of which no proof yet has been found) may have been for carrying and warming their eggs and young. An alternative view of the foot claws suggest their are suited for climbing and that Deinonychus was an arboreal species that could jump from tall trees using its feathered hands to slow its fall and steer onto unsuspecting prey. Significant differences in the hand to body size ratio in adults and juveniles suggests feathered hands were much more useful as a 'gliding device' in juveniles and a grabbing or clutching device in adults.
A set of ribs, hands and eggs discovered has suggested the strong possibility that the Deinonychus individual was clutching the eggs to keep them warm or to transport them when she was killed. The eggs were intact when she died. The size and shape of the reconstructed eggs were constant with the Deinonychus' pelvis size and are for many reasons thought to be the individuals own eggs. However, this find is still under investigation and the conclusions are not definite.
The bird like anatomy of the Deinonychus and light frame forever shattered the image of slow lumbering cold blooded stupid dinosaurs.
