The updated EMM386 allows programs to use expanded memory. Himem.sys was updated, but what was changed is unclear. It seems the updates made the third-party QEMM/386MAX used in DOS 5.x unnecessary, turning DOS 6.x only into user-friendlyness update in terms of that.

DOS 6.0 marks the last version that is identical or near identical across the distros. Any games requiring newer DOS always(?) were for MS-DOS.
