It should be noted that the Dragonlance was conceived by an outside contractor of TSR (D&D property holder at the time). Laura and Tracy Hickman were hoping to be hired as TSR employees and had already submitted modules for publication as well as making several self published ones. Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman would eventually become the main team behind the DragonLance franchise. The DragonLance series of novels, art work, calenders and other product besides game modals were more successful that TSR had anticipated. When a rift developed between the team and TSR, they expected the franchise would end soon sought other publishers for a final novel. However, when Wizards of the Coast bought TSR, they embraced everything DragonLance once again. Sovereign Press was licensed to produce DragonLance products for a time. Throughout its varied history, DragonLance has been converted to different gaming systems including SAGA and D&D 3rd edition.
Draconians and Kender are unique to DL, as compared to other D&D settings.
