Alternate names: Emergency shutdown, Emergency discharging

Commonly done to deal with overheating or similar, and generally venting that doesn't have any detrimental effects tends to be of limited use. Minimal detrimental effects usually have slightly prolonged duration but can often be used as often as desired. Venting that completely disables the thing is usually fast but obviously makes one extremely vulnerable.

At worst case the venting itself is dangerous in some manner. As an example, emergency venting by ejecting heatsinks and therefore causing farther operation of heat dissipation to be catastrophically inefficient (which may be acceptable risk depending on what causes overheating).
