Commonly pre-defined per room rather than simulated properly, thus the edges between two environments usually produce garish differences in audio. Noticeable between tight passageway with no special audio features connected to a large hall that echoes/reverbates the audio. Although in the individual spaces they sound correct, but hearing sounds from the other (especially sounds from the hall in the passage) come out as if they were in the environment the listener is in rather than the one where the sound is actually coming from (should actually be a mixture of the two depending on distance).

Most commonly used effect for this is reverb/echo.
