Usually seen with touch screens where the player touches down on an object and then flicks there finger across the screen in direction the object should be thrown. Often required to do so repeatedly.
Note that this is not limited to specific controller as same can be accomplished with mouse, joystick, and other potential controllers (though with buttons this is near impossible to implement).
