Player can create arbitrary groups that either become literal groups or simple shortcuts to selecting them.

The first video game about Grouping was released on December 1995.

Blizzard Entertainment, Blizzard and Electronic Arts has published most of these games

This covers three types of grouping:
1) Assigning a shortcut key to the selected units so the selection can be later re-called.
2) Creates a literal group so selecting even an individual of the group selects the whole.
3) Several (human) players form a temporary functional group (a party), usually with the intent of working cooperatively. (usually seen in non-strategy MMOs)
