Alternate name: Dedicated local server

Linux is common additional platform for dedicated server software.

Unlike regular locally hosted servers, dedicated servers do not need any graphical output capabilities and their requirements are lower than those of regular game servers. A lot of processing required for gamer experience can be omitted completely with most of the processing purely focused on transmitting data, some management functionality and any anti-cheat features. But besides that, the system requirements compared to the actual game are minuscule.
