So a car company makes hybrid gas-electric cars. But thousands of customers ask for an all-electric car from the company. The company rushes into action and adds to their cars, steam engines that operate on the heat produced by their gas and diesel engines. They are very proud and boastful that this increases fuel efficiency and adds 9% to city mileage and 13% to highway mileage to cars with gas and diesel engines. They tell customers they should buy these hybrid-steam cars because if they sell enough of them, they'll make the all-electric their customers want.
Now apply this logic to customers who want to play a company's game on their platform.
'If enough customers buy, play, or provide a minimum funding for our PlayStation game, we will port it to Wii'. Since spending resources on a PlayStaion game is unrelated to a Wii game, the company is effectively demanding a ransom with the port as the hostage.
