Map shadows

Software concept

Geometry shadows are part of the map design rather than projected or dispelled by lighting conditions.

This is a really old technique used before real-time lighting started to take over, especially commonly seen in tile-based games. This also means that there are no geometry shadows what so ever unless the level designer specifically adds them, regardless of the light sources they've placed. This may also imply that there are no real light sources either and the level designer needs to add the light as well (usually a light overlay tile over each lit tile).
